UM Committee on Relief (UMCOR) helps annual conferences prepare for and coordinate volunteers in the disaster zone. UMCOR’s partner, the United Methodist Volunteers in Mission (UMVIM), provides an important source of volunteers.
UMCOR coordinates with UMVIM about when it is appropriate to send teams and which skills are needed in a particular area. UMCOR helps annual conferences or local sites set up a “Call Center” where those wishing to volunteer can find a place to serve.
Training
UMVIM training aims to ensure that mission teams do not inadvertently “help” in ways that hurt and nurtures attitudes of respect and true partnership with the people and communities who are served. Online trainings are available here.
In-person VIM training session costs $12 per person and are held on a Saturday from 10 a.m.to 4 p.m.
