Job Description

The Couts Christian Academy Head of School is a vital member of the paid staff team of Couts United Methodist Church as we fulfill our mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. The Head of School provides dynamic vision, leadership, development, and management as they oversee the day-to-day activities of CCA, working with the pastor, staff, and church in supporting, coordinating, and fulfilling the mission of the church.

Status: Full Time, Exempt              

Effective Date: June 1, 2024

Essential Functions

  • Fosters a positive learning environment for children ages two years-elementary age that is developmentally appropriate and promotes the physical, cognitive, emotional, social, and spiritual development of children.
  • Implements policies and procedures to maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment in line with Texas Minimum Standards for Childcare Centers, the Texas Alliance of Accredited Private Schools, and the Couts UMC Ministry Safe Policy
  • Manages and leads staff, including hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating staff.
  • Leads the school with the Christian theology and values of Couts United Methodist Church.
  • Clearly communicates the expectations and goals to the staff, teachers, parents, and community communicates the expectations and goals to the staff, teachers, and parents.
  • Develops and implements strategic plans, in collaboration with the CCA Board, to ensure the school’s mission and goals are met.
  • Oversees curriculum development and ensures adherence to current educational standards.
  • Stays updated on current trends in education administration and implements best practices.

Other Responsibilities

  • Works collaboratively with the Assistant Director to oversee the day-to-day activities and interactions with CCA staff, students, and parents.
  • Manages the budget and works with the church Business Administrator to manage tuition payments and allocate resources effectively.
  • Works collaboratively with the CCA Board concerning school matters, including budget and staffing.
  • Communicates to the Finance Committee, Administrative Council, and the congregation matters related to CCA, including, but not limited to, events and goals.
  • Helps raise funds beyond the school operating budget for CCA projects.
  • Supports the mission and ministry of Couts United Methodist Church.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Meets the state-required qualifications for Childcare Director, including current CPR and first aid certification.
  • Enjoys working with children ages two years and up and their parents.
  • Is physically and emotionally equipped to work with young children, including the ability to lift 20-25 lbs.
  • Is an active member of a local church, preferably United Methodist.
  • Ability to build relationships with stakeholders, including parents, students, and community members.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Anticipates and meets deadlines.
  • Knowledge of various computer tools: Microsoft Office, social media, ability to learn custom software.
