Job Description

AUMC is searching for a leader who is called to minister with children, their families and the volunteers who lead them. We are an open and affirming (LGBTQ affirming) church of roughly 900 members in Richardson/N. Dallas, and we are growing, especially with children (average 30+ kids/Sunday)!

Ideal candidates will be creative, organized, forward thinking and good at building warm relationships with adults and children. Experience and prior success at leading vibrant Children’s Ministry will be valued.

Status: Full-Time (40 hrs/week)

Duties

  • Champion a vision and culture for faith formation, ages birth-5th grade

  • Recruit, train and oversee volunteers and paid Children’s Ministry Staff

  • Work with volunteer leaders to plan and execute seasonal events

  • Evaluate curriculum for various age-levels and programs

  • Ensure engagement of children in worship

  • Oversee congregational care to kids

  • Ensure compliance with safety standards as it relates to ministry with children

  • Attend leadership meetings, as directed

  • Develop and maintain departmental budgets

  • Maintain correct information in Church databases

Requirements 

  • Bachelor degree and 5+ years of professional experience working with children in a church or school setting (preferred)

  • Ability to work Sunday mornings and keep regular office hours during the week

  • Culturally competent and open-minded and inclusive as we minister with diverse persons, including race, sexuality, gender-identity, and beliefs

  • Theologically thoughtful in evaluating curriculum and faith formation

  • Proactive in planning ahead, calendaring, and communicating plans

  • Exceptionally skilled at delegating; experience managing 5+ direct-reports, including volunteers and childcare (preferred)

  • Develops warm relationships with AUMC families and children

  • Holds a team mindset in working with staff
