Squires retires from Wesley-Rankin CC

Sarah Squires

Shellie Ross

Ross named Executive Director of WRCC

On behalf of the Wesley Rankin Community Center (WRCC) Board of Directors, I am announcing the retirement of our Executive Director, Sarah Squires.

Sarah has been an innovative leader and tremendous partner to the West Dallas community. We are very grateful to Sarah for her commitment to meeting the needs of the community and for driving transformation in West Dallas.

Since joining WRCC eight years ago, Sarah has strengthened existing programs and launched new initiatives including GOh! GOh! Girls (Girls of Hope, Girls of Honor), which was created to help build self-esteem, encourage personal responsibility, establish life goals, and deepen the faith of young women. Under her leadership, WRCC has seen growth in programming, funding, and volunteer participation.

Well before announcing her retirement, Sarah began preparing her successor. This made the Board’s decision to appoint Shellie Ross as the new Executive Director of WRCC a unanimous one. We are grateful for the strong partnership of these two leaders as it will ensure a seamless transition.

Shellie joined WRCC in 2010 as an intern from Perkins School of Theology and has continued to advance into pivotal leadership roles. Her most recent position was Senior Director of Education. Shellie has been working with the West Dallas community for nearly eight years and is well positioned to embrace the needs of this rapidly changing community. We believe that Shellie is the right person to bring a new, diverse community together while meeting the needs of those we currently serve. Shellie assumes her new role effective immediately.

In response to the growth of the organization and expanding needs of the community, WRCC has added two new positions. Elizabeth Gillette joins our team as Chief Philanthropy Officer and Mary Gallegos as Community Engagement Manager. Guided by a deep commitment to ensuring that philanthropy centers the most marginalized people in pursuit of justice and meaningful change, Elizabeth comes to WRCC from Girls Embracing Mothers and the American Civil Liberties Union of Texas. Mary worked at Perkins School of Theology with a focus on student recruitment and enrollment. Welcome Elizabeth and Mary. A heartfelt thank you to Sarah Squires. She has been a tireless advocate for West Dallas and a true champion for those of us who love and support WRCC.

Sincerely,

Billy Young
