Spread the Word About the Summer Meals Program

No kid hungry logoSummer is here, meaning that it is officially time for the Summer Meals program. This program is designed to fill the summer hunger gap when children and teens are out of school and most at risk of going hungry.

Requiring no identification, all children and teens 18 and younger can receive a free meal at local Summer Meals sites. To find a site near you, call 2-1-1, text FOODTX to 877-877 or visit www.summerfood.org/.

There are a variety of ways you can help increase participation in the Summer Meals program. First, you can make announcements within your organization and via social media. Here is sample language:

Summer is the hungriest time of the year for kids, but the Summer Meals program offers free meals to all children 18 & under at hundreds of summer meal sites all around North Texas! To find a site near you, call 2-1-1, text FOODTX to 877-877 or visit summerfood.org.

You can also help by putting up promotional posters and distributing literature throughout your neighborhood, including at churches, shopping centers and other gathering spots. Finally, you can adopt a meal site and volunteer to provide activities and engage with the kids!
