Interfaith Prayer Service

Hosted by Thanks-Giving Square and Faith Forward Dallas

In January 2019, the City of Dallas will host the 37th annual celebration of the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., featuring a week’s worth of events highlighting issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion. For more than three decades, the City of Dallas’ Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center has hosted an annual banquet and parade to honor Dr. King’s legacy. This year, we will be extending this celebration to include a week of service opportunities and educational programming, open to all members of the community. Our theme is “Reconciliation: Moving the Dream Forward” for this important year, which will be highlighted throughout the week. (Michael S. Rawlings Mayor, City of Dallas)

MLK Community Breakfast

Hosted by Collin County MLK
When: 8 to 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 19
Where: Collin College, Spring Creek Campus (2800 E. Spring Creek Pkwy., Plano, TX 75074)

The Collin College Board of Trustees and Dr. Neil Matkin host the annual free breakfast and special tribute celebrating Dr. King by college students. Dr. King was passionate about education, justice and social equality. We will honor his legacy by focusing on these important issues through our speakers and have table discussions on how we can now act on the dream.

MLK Parade and Community Celebration

Hosted by Mesquite Texas City Hall
When: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 19
Where: Mesquite Texas City Hall (757 N. Galloway Ave., Mesquite, TX 75149)

The parade will begin in downtown Mesquite followed by the community celebration at 2 p.m. at the Mesquite Arts Center Concert Hall. The community celebration will feature remarks by various church pastors and community leaders, dance and musical performances, plus monologues.

City of Lancaster MLK Day Parade

Hosted by City of Lancaster, TX
When: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 19
Where: City of Lancaster, Municipal Government

The signature event celebrates Dr. King's Legacy of Justice, Peace and Equality and supports local outreach efforts. This year's Theme is "commUNITY: Remembering and Living the DREAM." The route will begin at the Lancaster Historic Town Square and travel northbound on Dallas Avenue to the Lancaster High School.

MLK Boys & Girls Conference

When: 8 a.m. to noon, Monday, Jan. 21
Where: Concord Church (6808 Pastor Bailey Drive, Dallas, TX  75237)
This conference is designed to create opportunities for 6th–8th grade boys & girls to discover their value by exposing them to principles to shape their futures in adulthood.

Collin County MLK Appreciation Day 2019

Hosted by Collin County Community Leaders and Collin County Community Churches.
When: 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday, Jan. 21
Where: First UMC Allen (601 S Greenville Ave, Allen, TX 75002)

John McCaa, WFAA TV News Co-Anchor. is the master of ceremonies. There will be performances from several area church choirs and the MLK Day Community Choir, with a dance presentation by Fellowship Christian Center Plano Ensemble.

MLK Celebration and Peace March

When: 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27
Where: Trinity Church (1231 E Pleasant Run Rd., Cedar Hill, TX 75104)

Join us for a FREE community event in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. featuring special guest Martin Luther King, III, Dr. King's oldest son, who will reflect on his father's Life and Legacy. Enjoy special performances and musical selections by Cedar Hill High School Choraliers & Chamber Singers followed by a peace march.
