Imelda flooding

NTC will receive your flood buckets Oct. 9-11 before transporting them to the Houston area

Tropical Storm Imelda pelted Houston and surrounding communities with torrential rain and caused flooding in September that was eerily reminiscent of the travesty caused by Hurricane Harvey two years ago.

Though we are four hours removed from the devastation, the North Texas Conference is positioned to offer assistance to our sisters and brothers to the south.

We will be collecting flood buckets from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 9-11 at the NTC Ministry Center (500 Maplelawn Dr., Plano, Texas 75075) that we will then deliver to the affected areas the following week. We are able to accept 500 flood buckets. You will need to bring volunteers to unload the flood buckets from your vehicle and move them into the Ministry Center.

If you are interested in dropping off your flood buckets, you must schedule a dropoff time. Contact either:

  • Jurrita Williams Louie, the conference’s Disaster Response Coordinator, at [email protected] or 205-765-8402
  • Tracy Everson, the conference’s hospitality coordinator, at 972-526-5000

There are other ways to assist, as well. Consider making a donation to the North Texas Conference’s Disaster Relief Fund or directly to the United Methodist Committee on Relief for international disaster response or domestic disaster response.
