WFAA Sports Anchor is the guest at annual Zan Wesley Holmes Jr. Community Outreach Center fundraiser

The Zan Wesley Holmes Jr. Community Outreach Center is hosting its annual fundraiser – In Conversation – virtually at 11:30 a.m., Friday, March 5. WFAA-TV sports anchor Dale Hansen will be this year’s guest.

Hansen is the weeknight sports anchor during the 10 p.m. newscast on Channel 8. He also hosts Dale Hansen's Sports Special on Sundays at 10:35 p.m.

Hansen is well known for his acclaimed "Unplugged" segments, including his 2014 commentary supporting NFL draft candidate Michael Sam coming out as a gay man and his 2017 commentary supporting Colin Kapernick and other NFL players who took a knee during the national anthem to raise awareness for police brutality and the racial injustice.

Hansen has been profiled in a The New York Times piece titled, "The Progressive Voice Bursting From Texas and Spreading Everywhere." The Times' described Hansen as a progressive voice, "talking — in remarkably personal terms," about sexual abuse, violence against women, racism in sports and gun violence.

In Conversation is the primary fundraising effort that helps to make possible the Center’s programs and operations. The “Conversation” hosts a distinguished guest each year who helps to shine a light on the life and events of our city, state, nation and world.

Honorary Chairs for the 2021 In Conversation are Rev. Richie Butler, Senior Pastor at St. Luke “Community” UMC, and Mrs. Neisha Strambler-Butler. For the fifth consecutive year, local entrepreneur and philanthropist Roland Parrish and Parrish Restaurants Ltd. continues their support as title sponsor.
