Director of Youth Ministries Job Description
Plymouth Park United Methodist Church is seeking a full-time Director of Youth Ministries. Plymouth Park UMC serves a diverse community and congregation in Irving, TX and the surrounding cities. The youth group consists of 20-40 students across middle and high school who are very diverse and LGBTQIA+ affirming and inclusive. The Director of Youth Ministries is expected to journey alongside 6-12th grade students and their families through facilitating faith formation, building relationships, fostering inclusive community across a diverse range of life experiences, connecting faith with current cultural needs, and empowering students to be just and equitable leaders in the church and world.
Responsibilities
- Plan weekly Wednesday night youth fellowship (Student Outreach) which includes gathering/hang out time, worship, group games, lesson or large group conversation, small group discussions, and prayer
- Lead and plan Sunday morning student gatherings (Breakfast Club/Sunday School) and monthly Sunday afternoon Bible Study
- Plan and lead Summer mission trip and local mission week
- Plan and lead multiple retreats during the school year (Fall and Spring, usually one is a Mystery Trip)
- Facilitate Confirmation for middle school students every other year (with assistance from pastoral staff and lay leaders)
- Train and equip committed team of at least 6 adult volunteers who assist ni all programs
- Develop youth leadership team who assists in planning and programming for Student Outreach, Bible Study, and lead in worship and other activities
- Collaborate with Director of Children’s Ministry and other staff for coordination of ministries for all families and intergenerational opportunities
- Develop and maintain personal relationships with students and their families, including meals at schools, opportunities for coffee, and other connections as appropriate
- Foster relationships with community assistance organizations alongside Children’s Ministry and entire congregation
- Manage the Youth Ministry Budget
- Assist in leading weekly worship
- Participate in collaborative staff planning
- Contribute to monthly church leadership meetings
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Embodies the love and care of Christ for all people
- Versed in United Methodist theology and practices
- Preferred 2 years experience in youth ministry, full-time, part-time, or volunteer
- Preferred education completed- bachelor's degree
- Experience planning and leading mission and recreational trips with students and volunteers
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organization skills
- Experience in socioeconomically and racially diverse ministry context is a plus
Compensation is $35-38,000, negotiable depending on qualifications and relevant experience.
