Job Description for Associate Director of Student Ministry | Programming and Sunday Morning - Westheimer Campus

Supervisor: Director of Student Ministry

EXEMPT: Full Time

Flexible Schedule (M-Th 8:30 - 5:00, Sun 8:00 - 8:00)

Overall Responsibility 

The Associate Director of Student Ministry works with student ministry staff and volunteers to design and implement student ministry programs and ministries while providing Christian guidance to students and volunteers. This role requires an individual to have leadership, collaborative, and communication gifts. 

Prerequisites for hire:

  • Leads from a core of spiritual health and wholeness with spiritual maturity and a strong passion for ministry

  • At least 4 years of experience as a student ministries intern or staff member

  • College graduate

  • Demonstrated ability to work in teams, maintain flexibility, and execute goals while collaborating in a team environment

 

Ideal Candidate

 

  • Spiritual Depth:

  • Some post-graduate seminary education

  • Experience leading and managing a team

  • Familiarity with AV/Tech systems

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Oversee Sunday Morning Student Ministry & Production

  • Ensure that Sunday morning and event environments are welcoming, energetic, and engaging for students

  • Oversee the worship culture (Band/Music) and production environment (Tech/AV) for all student gatherings.

 

  1. Volunteer Strategy and Recruitment

  • Help design and execute the year-round strategy to identify and recruit volunteers for Sunday mornings and events

  • Recruit, equip, and train a team of volunteer leaders to execute programming logistics.

  • Coordinate volunteers specifically for individual events and weekly programming.

 

  1. Major Event Operations & Logistics

  • Direct the planning and logistics for large-scale events, retreats, Sunday Night Programming, and service projects.

  • Work with the student ministry staff to ensure all preparation needs ("nuts and bolts") have been completed prior to events.

  • Collaborate with key staff members on operational details, including contracts, travel arrangements, and event budgets.

 

  1. Ministry Partnerships

  • Serve as the key partner and liaison for external ministries with which St. Luke’s partners, including Scouts, Young Life, and Ozone

  • Work with the student ministry administrative assistant to coordinate usage of shared spaces and resources with these partners.

 

  1. General Student Ministry Team

  • Help design and execute a proactive student and family engagement strategy, ensuring consistent and personal follow-up with disconnected students and families.

  • Participate in student leadership initiatives as a trainer and discipler.

  • Attend student ministry and church staff team meetings.

  • Participate in the shared rotation of teaching or announcements as needed.

  • Offer general assistance in any area of the church's ministry where talents and abilities are requested.

 

Skills and Attributes

  • Be a model for incarnational and relational ministry during student ministry programs

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Computer, AV, and internet skills

  • Diplomacy in relationships

  • Organizational skills to oversee complicated event logistics and the ability to keep the ministry calendar.
