Job Description
First United Methodist Church Georgetown seeks a fulltime Director of Children’s and Family Ministry to oversee a growing ministry in a growing congregation. The church currently averages around 500 in worship each Sunday between three services. The contemporary service has seen strong growth in young families with children. A children’s sermon is offered each Sunday in this service followed by a separate children’s worship time of teaching and learning. Sunday school is currently divided into three classes between 2 years of age up to 4th grade.
With any active children’s ministry, the calendar is filled with special events and activities throughout the year. These events require advanced planning and coordination of large teams of volunteers: Vacation Bible School (180 students), Mission Camp (40 students), Trunk or Treat, Family Advent and Lent event, and oversight for nursery workers, Music Camp, children’s musical presentations, and summertime Project Transformation (children’s reading camp).
The ministry is supported by two part-time assistants (one position is currently open) and a strong Children’s Ministry Team of adults. The Director is responsible for the ministry budget, assuring all volunteers have completed volunteer background checks, and attending weekly staff meetings. This position reports to the Associate Pastor.
Strong candidates will continue to build on our staff culture of joy, teamwork, and empowering our laity to offer ministry. A degree in a related field and three or more years of experience is preferred.
The salary for this position is $56,500 plus individual health insurance. In addition, the church contributes 6% of the salary amount to a retirement account. No participation is required by employee and amounts contributed are fully vested immediately.
