Melissa United Methodist Church, Melissa, TX

Job Description

Melissa United Methodist Church

We’re looking for a passionate, people-loving, Jesus-following Youth Director who wants to help students find their place in God’s big story.
Melissa UMC is a church where faith is alive, questions are welcome, and community runs deep in a church for ALL people. We believe middle and high school students don’t need to wait to make a difference—because they are the church now.

Position Snapshot:

You’ll lead our Sunday Night Youth Ministry and Sunday Morning Sunday School, building relationships with students (grades 6–12) and their families. You’ll also coordinate creative fundraisers that support youth ministry opportunities, recruit and empower amazing volunteers, and work alongside our staff team to connect students to the broader life of the church.

Your Weekly Wins:

  • Sunday Nights: Create and lead engaging youth gatherings with music, games, Scripture teaching, and small group discussions that help students belong, believe, and become who God created them to be.
  • Sunday School: Teach or coordinate weekly classes that encourage scriptural understanding and faith application for middle and high school students.
  • Fundraisers & Special Events: Plan and lead creative, community-building fundraisers to support mission trips, retreats, and youth activities.
  • Relationships: Build strong connections with students and their families—attend school events, cheer them on, and be a trusted presence in their lives.
  • Volunteer Engagement: Recruit, train, and encourage adult volunteers who can walk alongside students in faith and friendship.
  • Safety & Care: Follow safety protocols (MinistrySafe, background checks) to ensure youth ministry is safe and welcoming for everyone.

What You Bring:

  • A growing personal faith in Jesus Christ and a desire to serve the Church.
  • Experience with youth (camp, church, classroom, or general organized chaos).
  • Ability to plan, lead, and reflect with humility, energy, and creativity.
  • Strong communication skills with both students and parents.
  • Musical or worship leadership skills are a plus, but not required.
  • College Degree preferred, but negotiable with appropriate experience
