Worship & Rehearsal Musician/Organ & Piano

6-8 Hours Non-exempt

 

 

Purpose of the Position:

To help create an environment where people can experience the presence of God in worship.

 

Job Summary:

Play the organ and piano for traditional services and piano for choir rehearsal. Prelude, Postlude, Offertory, hymn accompaniment.

Working Hours:

Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings, in general. Additional special services throughout the year, including Christmas Eve, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and funerals.

 

Reports To: 

Director of Music

Qualifications:

Minimum bachelor’s degree in music performance or equivalent. Proficient in organ and piano performance, particularly in traditional worship settings. Sight reading skills. Familiarity with church traditions, and sacred music literature, preferably in a United Methodist setting.

 

Compensation:

$18,200 annually

Job Responsibilities

Worship Leadership

  • Provide organ and piano accompaniment for worship services and rehearsals.
  • Play hymns, service music, preludes, postludes, offertories, and other selections as assigned.
  • Accompany choir rehearsals and performances.
  • Support congregational singing through confident and sensitive accompaniment.
  • Prepare music in advance to ensure a high level of musical excellence.

 

 

 

 

Collaboration & Planning

  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Music, pastors, choir members, and other musicians.
  • Participate in worship planning conversations as requested.
  • Coordinate with music staff regarding substitutions or schedule changes when necessary.

Professional Expectations

  • Arrive prepared and on time for rehearsals and worship services.
  • Maintain a professional and cooperative attitude with staff, volunteers, and congregation members.
  • Treat confidential information with discretion.
  • Demonstrate reliability, flexibility, and a spirit of teamwork.

Instrument Care

  • Notify appropriate staff of any maintenance or tuning needs for the organ or pianos.
  • Assist in maintaining an orderly music and rehearsal space.

Additional Qualifications

  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, and play instruments for extended periods.
  • Ability to navigate stairs and move music materials as needed.
