Job Description
First UMC Sherman is seeking a passionate and dedicated Director of Youth Ministries to join our church family and lead our youth program. This role presents an exciting opportunity to shape the spiritual journey of students in grades 6-12 while fostering an inclusive, Christ-centered community.
Position Overview
The Director of Youth Ministries serves as a spiritual leader, role model, and champion for our youth, while seamlessly integrating youth ministry throughout the broader church community. This position is fundamental in nurturing the faith development of young people during their formative years.
Primary Responsibilities
- Design and implement comprehensive youth ministry programs that engage students in grades 6-12, fostering their spiritual growth and personal development
- Create and maintain a safe, welcoming environment where youth can explore their faith, ask questions, and build meaningful relationships
- Develop and lead regular youth gatherings, including Sunday school, weekly youth group meetings, and special events
- Mentor and disciple youth through both group settings and one-on-one relationships
- Recruit, train, and support volunteer youth ministry leaders
- Collaborate with church staff to integrate youth participation in worship services and church-wide activities
- Plan and coordinate youth mission trips, retreats, and service projects
- Maintain regular communication with parents and families about youth activities and spiritual development opportunities
- Build relationships with local schools and community organizations to extend youth ministry reach
Qualifications
- Strong personal faith and commitment to Jesus Christ
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Experience in youth ministry leadership preferred
- Demonstrated ability to connect with and relate to teenagers
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Proven track record of building and leading volunteer teams
- Understanding of adolescent development and current youth culture
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
