JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Title:                           Director of Children’s Ministries

Reports To:             Co-Pastors, SPRC

Hours:                       Part-Time, 20 hours a week

Flexible schedule, must include Sunday worship, Holy Week, VBS, Christmas Eve

           

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Director of Children’s Ministries supports the ministry of our church by equipping and overseeing volunteers serving with children from birth – 5th grade. This role equips and supports families in nurturing their children’s faith, creates safe and welcoming environments for learning and worship, and empowers volunteers to lead developmentally appropriate, Wesleyan-rooted, discipleship experiences. The Director ensures that children are integrated into the life of the church and that all ministries reflect the United Methodist mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, child development, ministry, or related field preferred
  • Strong ability to recruit, train, and empower volunteers
  • Excellent communication skills with children, parents, volunteers, and church staff
  • Strong team-oriented mindset with a commitment to collaboration across ministry areas
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and administrative abilities
  • Ability to develop and implement curriculum and programs
  • Ability to incorporate age-appropriate multimedia (video, audio, visuals, & digital content) into ministry programming
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office for communication, coordination, and record keeping.
  • Prior experience leading children’s ministries in a church setting or comparable experience in education or childcare
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)

 

 

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities)

General Duties and Expectations:

  • Follow and enforce compliance with First Rowlett Policies and Procedures, including MinistrySafe
  • Attend weekly staff meetings
  • Recruit, train and supervise volunteers
  • Recruit, train and supervise childcare staff
  • Maintain accurate records
  • Maintain positive public relations
  • Oversee scheduling and facility usage for Children’s Ministry functions
  • Build relationships and foster positive interactions with all children, parents/guardians, & volunteers
  • Assist with children’s behavioral issues as needed
  • Work together with other Children’s Ministry staff, the Children’s Ministry Council (CMC), and Wesleyan Christian Academy
  • Assists with pastoral care duties
  • Other related duties as requested by CMC, program leaders, Staff Parrish Relations Committee (SPRC), and Pastor

Specific Duties and Expectations – Childcare:

  • Maintain and manage all budgetary issues (set by Finance Committee)
  • Maintain current childcare staff listings and contact information
  • Maintain appropriate child to staff ratios
  • Create and manage childcare staff work schedule
  • Help to enforce all training and worker development (safety, childcare, CPR, first-aid, bad weather, fire safety, lock-down, etc.)

Specific Duties and Expectations Little Life Groups/Sunday School:

  • Oversight of:
    • Little Life Groups/Sunday School
    • Kids Church
    • Kids in Community
    • Children’s Choir
    • Parents Night Out
    • Vacation Bible School (VBS)
    • Nursery/Childcare
    • Children’s Ministry Special Events (VBS, Fall Festival/Jamboree, Easter Extravaganza, Special Sundays, Camps, Back to School, Christmas Events, etc.)
  • Recruit, train and supervise volunteers
  • Personnel management for childcare staff
  • Maintain current childcare staff listings and contact information
  • Maintain appropriate child to staff ratios
  • Create and manage childcare staff work schedule
  • Help to enforce all training and worker development (safety, childcare, CPR, first-aid, bad weather, fire safety, lock-down, etc.)
  • Arrange for substitutes whenever necessary
  • Select, develop and implement age-appropriate, Wesleyan-rooted curriculum
  • Inventory management and purchase of supplies and snacks
  • Manage budget for program
  • Coordinate schedule and location for classes/programs
  • Maintain attendance records
  • Present before, during, and after worship to greet families & guests

Internal:  First Rowlett Staff, Children’s Ministry Directors and Staff, WCA Staff, Children’s Ministry Council

External:  Community, Vendors
