Job Description

Purpose:
The Youth Ministry Assistant position is designed to cultivate a Christ-centered youth community that nurtures faith, builds meaningful relationships, and equips students to grow as disciples and leaders within the church for Youth (Grades 6-12).
Primary Responsibilities:
- Model a vibrant Christian faith and lead students in spiritual growth through teaching, mentoring, and relationship-building
- Create a welcoming, safe, and inclusive environment where students feel known, valued, and encouraged
- Provide intentional discipleship and mentorship, with particular sensitivity to the relational and spiritual needs of both male and female students
- Plan, lead, and oversee:
- Youth Educational Programming
- Youth Fellowship
- Fundraising Efforts to Support Youth Special Programing (mission trip, etc.)
- Collaborate with student leaders to set ministry goals and develop an annual ministry calendar
- In conjunction with the Director of Spiritual Formation; select, implement, and oversee age-appropriate, biblically sound curriculum
- Recruit, train, support, and schedule youth ministry volunteers
- Foster a healthy, collaborative volunteer culture grounded in trust and accountability
- Participate in leadership team meetings and contribute to broader church vision and planning
- Prepare curriculum and lesson plans in advance
- Maintain consistent communication with parents and students
- Coordinate logistics, scheduling, and ministry planning
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills and follow-through
Working Hours:
- Working hours and days may vary based on the needs of First United Methodist Church of Allen. It is anticipated that this position will not exceed 20 hours per week. The below schedule is an example of what hours might look like. Final working hours and schedule to be determined and agreed upon by Youth Ministry Assistant and Direct Supervisor.
- Sunday’s
- 8:30 am – 12:30 pm
- Tuesday’s – Staff Meeting
- 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm
- One Hour TBD with Direct Supervisor for weekly check-in meeting
- Small Group
- 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
- Sunday’s
- Other hours as needed to perform duties as outlined above.
Required Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree or equivalent experience
- Proficient with use of computers, and software applications such as Microsoft Office product suite
- Critical Thinking
- Ability to be flexible and collaborative
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
- Must be able to pass background check
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with individuals in grades 6-12 in a ministry setting or a similar role.
Working Relationships:
Internal – FUMC Allen Teams, Senior Pastor, Members, Visitors, Board and Committees
External – Contractors, Vendors, Donors
Work Environment:
This role requires flexibility in the hours available to work, including evenings and weekends, as well as secular and religious holidays. The employee should be in the office a sufficient amount of time for required meetings and programming needs. The employee must ensure sound and open communication between themselves, internal and external relationships.
