We are seeking a passionate Youth Pastor/Director to join our team at First United Methodist Church Denton. In this role, you will play a vital part in nurturing the spiritual growth of our youth, creating engaging programs that reflect our mission of love and service. Your leadership will help shape the next generation of our church community.

FUMC Denton is a growing congregation of approximately 1,800 members, committed to investing in the next generation as we step boldly into a new chapter of ministry together. As the oldest church in Denton, founded in 1857, the congregation has deep local roots and a legacy of creatively serving the community with an entrepreneurial spirit. We are dedicated to pursuing diversity and affirming theology for all of God’s children, including our LGBTQ+ neighbors and friends. We celebrate our position as a “downtown” church and actively seek to offer compassion and seek justice in matters related to homelessness, public education, and providing meaningful support to local non-profits.

FUMC Denton is in the heart of a growing, quirky college town on the northwest edge of the DFW Metroplex. Job Summary

The youth ministry currently has an active roster of approximately 70 students, and weekly participation of about 25 students. The students want to build a ministry where deep relationships are nurtured, where faith leads us to deeper questions rather than easy answers, where fun and joy are integral to life together, and where each person is treated with dignity and love. We are seeking a passionate Youth Pastor/Director to join our team at First United Methodist Church Denton. In this role, you will play a vital part in nurturing the spiritual growth of our youth, creating engaging programs that reflect our mission of love and service. Your leadership will help shape the next generation of our church community.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement youth programs that promote spiritual growth and community involvement.
• Lead weekly youth meetings, providing guidance and support to participants.
• Plan and coordinate events that engage youth in faith-based activities and service projects.
• Provide mentoring and counseling to youth in need of support.
• Collaborate with church staff and volunteers to foster a welcoming environment for all ages.
• Facilitate discussions on relevant topics affecting youth today, incorporating Christian teachings.

Requirements

• Feels called to youth ministry as a vocation.
• Understands how to relate to teenagers effectively.
• Is able to build warm relationships with a variety of personalities.
• Can organize and execute long-term projects and trips.
• Possesses a firm grasp of Wesleyan/Methodist theology.
• Supports a culture of inclusivity and affirming theology.
• Works well as part of a team.
• Has energy and a positive spirit.
• Can recruit, train, and support volunteers for a variety of roles.
• Maintains a safe environment—physically, emotionally, and spiritually—always.
• Supports students and their families with a ministry of care and compassion.
• Is present in the community of Denton and engaged in the life-events of students.

Preferred Qualifications:

• At least 3-5 years of experience as a director/pastor of youth ministries is preferred.
• Seminary training is welcomed, but not required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $55,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
