Job Description: Director of Youth Ministries
First United Methodist Church, Sulphur Springs, Texas seeks a full-time Director of Youth Ministries.
JOB SUMMARY: The primary responsibility for the Director of Youth Ministry is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the youth and their families, in the United Methodist tradition.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Youth Ministry for 6th – 12th graders:
- Coordinate and facilitate Sunday School for youth.
- Active involvement with community outreach (attendance at school activities, events, visits to the schools).
- Find Sunday School, Confirmation and Youth Group curricula and resources appropriate to the needs and goals of our youth.
- Recruit, guide, coach, and coordinate the Youth Ministry helpers and leaders (Youth Council).
- Design, implement, and help coordinate the confirmation program, in collaboration with the Senior Pastor.
- Plan, implement, and lead summer youth mission trips.
- Plan, implement, and lead summer youth camps.
Family Ministry:
- Coordinate and facilitate ministries with parents and families.
- Work in collaboration with Senior Pastor and other program staff to plan and offer ministry in line with the church’s direction and vision.
- Offer ongoing spiritual/pastoral care for families and youth as needed, in collaboration with the Senior Pastor.
- Create opportunities for youth and their families to learn and serve together.
- Coordinate and facilitate with our Children’s Director.
Other Responsibilities:
- Publicize events through church bulletin, website, social media, and worship announcements.
- Provide weekly communication to families of youth via email and text.
- Participate in weekly staff meetings.
- Prepare yearly youth budget, and coordinate its administration with church staff.
- Coordinate and oversee activities and events in our Family Life Center.
- Attend other meetings as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Strong personal Christian faith.
- Spiritually and emotionally mature, able to relate well to youth (ages 12 – 18 yrs.) and their parents. (Preferred young individual or couple).
- Knowledge of Biblical and spiritual traditions and willingness to learn and teach about United Methodism.
- Experience in creation of ministries that connect with youth and families.
- Passionate about expanding the church’s outreach beyond our congregation to connect with individuals within our local community.
- Ready and able to take initiative (self-Starter, Action-Oriented).
- Strong interpersonal skills – particularly with youth and their families.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
