Children’s Director

Position Title: Children’s Director

Reports To: Senior Pastor

FLSA Status: Full-Time, Exempt

Salary: Commensurate with experience

Campus Drive United Methodist Church is a dynamic, Christ-centered, African American congregation in an urban community that believes in planting spiritual seeds early. Our mission is to nurture children from birth through 5th grade with faith-based education, joyful experiences, and strong cultural roots.

Position Summary:

The Children’s Director will lead the planning, coordination, and execution of a comprehensive ministry for children—from newborns through 5th grade—that includes Christian education, spiritual formation, creative events, and community-building celebrations. The ideal candidate will have a deep love for children, an understanding of their developmental needs, and the ability to connect faith with fun in culturally meaningful ways.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Creation & Oversight

- Design and implement engaging Sunday morning and midweek programs for children across all age levels, including nursery, preschool, and elementary.

- Coordinate seasonal events such as Easter celebrations, Children’s Sabbath, Vacation Bible School, Black History Month presentations, and holiday performances.

- Develop systems of recognition and celebration for birthdays, school achievements, and spiritual milestones (e.g., baptism, promotion Sundays).

Christian Education Development

- Build curriculum that reflects Methodist values and African American heritage while being developmentally appropriate for various age groups.

- Equip volunteers to teach and care for children with confidence, love, and accountability.

Leadership & Communication

- Recruit, train, and schedule volunteers for all children’s ministry roles, ensuring safe and loving environments.

- Maintain regular communication with parents, staff, and leadership regarding events and needs.

Safety & Administration

- Oversee implementation of Ministry Safe policies and procedures for all children’s ministry activities.

- Manage the children’s ministry budget and maintain up-to-date attendance records and program evaluations.

Qualifications:

- A vibrant Christian faith and commitment to the mission of the United Methodist Church

- Experience working with children in educational, faith-based, or community settings

- Familiarity with African American culture and urban ministry dynamics

- Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills

- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)

Hours & Expectations:

- 40 hours per week, including Sundays and occasional evenings/weekends

- Active participation in staff meetings, worship planning, and church-wide initiatives
