Job Description

 

The Business Manager contributes to the mission and ministry of Spring Valley United Methodist Church by providing administrative leadership and financial operations support. This individual ensures smooth daily office functions, maintains effective communication with church members and community partners, and oversees essential bookkeeping and reporting processes.

Compensation: $40/hour, 35 hours per week expected. Four days in the office minimum. 

Key Responsibilities

Administrative and Facility Coordination

•Serve as liaison with community partners and organizations using church facilities.

•Supervise Administrative Assistant

•Coordinate IT support with external provider and staff

Financial Operations

•Process accounts payable and receivable using QuickBooks, manage reimbursements

and bill payments, maintain vendor files

•Prepare monthly and year-end financial reports in collaboration with the church Treasurer.

•Prepare quarterly giving statements for church members in collaboration with the church Treasurer, monitor CLOVER software for giving, input giving in REALM software

•Handle banking deposits and transactions and maintain organized financial records.

•Keep employee payroll files, run payroll on 15th and 30th, deposit payroll tax and files reports with IRS, file W2s and 1099s

 

Qualifications

Required:

•Bachelor’s Degree- Finance or Accounting preferred

•Five years accounting experience

•Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize tasks.

•Proficiency in Microsoft Office or Google Workspace

•Basic bookkeeping skills; familiarity with accounting principles and software such as QuickBooks or equivalents.

•Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

•Friendly, professional demeanor; discretion with confidential information.

•A collaborative spirit and ability to work with staff, volunteers, and the broader community.

Preferred:

•Prior experience in a church or nonprofit environment.

•Understanding of or alignment with United Methodist values and mission.

•Familiarity with payroll systems or working with outside payroll providers.
