About Arlington Heights UMC
Arlington Heights United Methodist Church is a mid-size United Methodist congregation in Fort Worth, Texas. Our mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world, and our congregational life is shaped by relevant worship, purposeful spiritual growth, passionate service, and a sincere welcome we strive to extend to every person who steps onto our porch — physical or digital.
We are looking for a thoughtful, capable communicator who can help us tell the story of who we are and what we do in print, online, and across the building.
Position Summary
The Communications Coordinator stewards the congregation's voice across digital and traditional channels so that members, visitors, and neighbors encounter a clear and consistent witness of the identity and life of AHUMC. The coordinator designs and produces weekly bulletins, newsletters, social media, and the website; supports seasonal and event communications; and serves as a thoughtful collaborator with clergy, staff, and lay volunteers.
This is a part-time, half-time role designed to be sustainable. The coordinator is expected to do excellent work within 20 hours per week and to help the staff and congregation hold realistic expectations about scope and timing.
Core Responsibilities
Three core areas, with weekly rhythms and seasonal projects in each:
Digital channels.
- Coordinate and contribute to the AHUMC website, ensuring content stays current and on-brand.
- Collaborate with pastors and staff to produce a weekly congregational email newsletter.
- Develop and oversee a social media plan across Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube — with shared responsibility for execution.
Worship and print materials.
- Design the Sunday bulletin and announcement slides in coordination with clergy and staff.
- Create flyers, postcards, posters, and signage for ministries and seasonal events.
- Produce print pieces for Advent, Lent, Holy Week, Easter, stewardship, and other major emphases.
Brand and coordination.
- Steward AHUMC's visual identity — typography, color, and photography.
- Receive and prioritize communications requests from staff and lay leaders, with realistic lead times.
- Equip a small team of lay volunteers to help tell our story.
Required Qualifications
- Strong, clear writing and the ability to adapt the writing of others for publication.
- Working proficiency in Canva, Mailchimp, and a website CMS (WordPress, Squarespace, or similar).
- Comfort managing your own time and prioritizing across overlapping projects.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two or more years of communications, marketing, journalism, or design experience, ideally in a church, nonprofit, school, or other mission-driven organization.
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) or comparable professional design tools.
- Familiarity with Google Workspace products including Google Drive, Documents, Sheets, etc.
