Job Title: Director of Plant Maintenance
Reports To: Senior Pastor
Status: Full-time

Salary Range: $35,000-$42,000

Position Summary

The Facilities Director is responsible for the overall care, maintenance, and stewardship of church buildings and grounds. This role ensures that all facilities are safe, functional, clean, and welcoming for ministry, worship, and community use. The position includes hands-on maintenance work, coordination of repairs, and oversight of outside contractors.

Qualifications

  • Experience in building maintenance, facilities management, or a related field
  • Working knowledge of basic repair skills (electrical, plumbing, HVAC systems)
  • Ability to coordinate and supervise contractors
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Physical ability to perform manual labor, including lifting, bending, and outdoor work
  • Commitment to supporting the mission and ministry of the church

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a church or nonprofit setting
  • Relevant certifications or licenses in maintenance-related fields

Work Environment

  • Includes both indoor and outdoor work in varying weather conditions
  • May require occasional evening or weekend availability for events or urgent needs
  • Will work with First Methodist School personnel for school needs

Key Responsibilities

Facility Maintenance & Repairs

  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, etc.)
  • Monitor building systems (HVAC, lighting, plumbing) to ensure proper operation
  • Identify maintenance needs and address issues in a timely manner
  • Maintain maintenance logs and records of repairs

Supplies

  • Orders and purchases janitorial supplies for delivery and pickup
  • Monitors supply needs and makes purchases for kitchen ministries

Contractor Oversight

  • Identify when specialized work is needed and coordinate with licensed professionals (HVAC technicians, electricians, plumbers, etc.)
  • Obtain quotes and recommend vendors
  • Schedule and supervise contractor work to ensure quality and completion
  • Maintain relationships with trusted service providers

Grounds & Exterior Care

  • Oversee lawn care, landscaping, and seasonal property needs (mowing, trimming, leaf removal, snow/ice management as applicable)
  • Ensure parking lots, sidewalks, and outdoor areas are safe and well-maintained

Cleaning & Upkeep

  • Perform light cleaning duties such as trash removal and basic upkeep of common areas
  • Monitor overall cleanliness of the facility and address needs as they arise
  • Coordinate with any custodial staff or volunteers if applicable

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure facilities meet safety standards and local regulations
  • Conduct regular inspections to identify hazards or concerns
  • Maintain emergency systems (fire extinguishers, alarms, etc.)

Event Support

  • Assist with setup and teardown for church events as needed
  • Ensure spaces are prepared and functional for worship services and activities
  • Lock and unlock doors for church rentals and some church events
