Part‑Time Ministry Staff (Salaried)

Purpose Statement

The Assistant Director of Youth Ministries supports the overall mission of First United Methodist Church of Rockwall, by helping guide, teach, and nurture the spiritual development of 6th-12th grade youth in Jesus Christ. This position works under the leadership of the Director of Youth Ministries and collaborates with church staff to build meaningful relationships with youth and their families. The Assistant Director plays an active role in planning, coordinating, and leading youth programs, activities, and events.

Time Requirements

  • 12-15 hours per week
  • Sundays: Required hours - 8:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.–7:30 p.m.
  • Administrative hours: Flexible; may be completed Monday–Thursday, 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
  • Additional Hours Required For:
    • Summer camps and trips
    • Special events (retreats, day trips, etc.)
    • Major church holidays (Easter Sunday & Christmas Eve)

Job Requirements

  • Be a follower of Jesus Christ.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to quickly learn church software and technology tools.
  • Ability to relate well to teenagers and communicate effectively with parents.
  • Physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand or walk for long periods.
  • Uphold and foster MinistrySafe program compliance.
  • Understanding of and commitment to United Methodist doctrine and polity.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Foster and model a positive, welcoming environment for youth and families.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Youth Ministries in visioning, planning, organizing, implementing, and supervising all youth programs, activities, and trips.
  • Assist with set-up and preparation for weekly and special events, including supplies, curriculum, volunteers, and agendas.
  • Prepare and lead games and activities for Sunday School and UMYF.
  • Occasionally deliver devotional lessons for UMYF.
  • Assist with youth communications such as newsletters, social media, text messaging, calendars, and print materials.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date documentation (waivers, MinistrySafe certifications, background checks, etc.).
  • Participate fully in the missions, ministries, and life of First UMC Rockwall.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Youth Ministries and serve as the Director’s substitute during absences.

Optional and Related Growth Opportunities

  • Serve as liturgist in worship services.
  • Assist in leading and supporting the Youth Praise Band.
  • Contact and follow up with youth visitors.
  • Assist with crisis response in cases of youth or family emergencies.
  • Support major church‑wide events and seasonal activities.
