School Director Job Description
JOB TITLE: School Director SALARY: $60,500.00
REPORTS TO: The Ark Governing Board

Primary Purpose: The School Director is the chief administrative officer of the preschool and is primarily responsible for managing its day-to-day operations, supervising its staff and Human Resources duties, directing and coordinating its programs, and overseeing the safety and responsibility for its students.The School Director must be able to inspire and manage personalities and instill a sense of common purpose, confidence, and teamwork in the students, staff and families of The Ark. Working closely with the Director of Education and Director of Business Administration, the School Director will create a nurturing Christian environment for early childhood education for children ages 2 to 5 years.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Students
-
Promote the safety and well-being of all of the children enrolled at The Ark Preschool in a Christian-based environment

Personify the spirit and spiritual life of the Preschool by being visible and engaged with students daily and in classrooms

Provide hands-on and engaging classroom opportunities to develop prepared students

Staff
-
Recruit/Hire/Support/Classroom Observations/Evaluations

Conduct staff development, training, and onboarding
-
Address staff performance concerns through coaching, documentation, corrective action, and, when necessary, termination
-
Maintain state licensing standards for continuing education requirements
-
Develop classroom and staff schedules
-
Work congruently with the Director of Business Administration and the Director of Education to maintain a professional and safe environment

Manage Job Descriptions, Staff Handbook and Parent Handbook

Organize all staff files/school records to maintain the State Licensing Book
-
Safety
-
Organize and conduct Fire and Safety drills
-
Ensure all staff is fully trained and prepared for emergency drills and protocols
-
Accurately maintain all safety records and equipment
-
Families
-
Write and distribute weekly e-mail communication and updates to parents/staff
-
Develop a monthly newsletter with suggested content from other directors/staff and distribute to all classes and to parents on specified dates

Be visible at all functions and positively promote the Christian mission and outreach of The Ark Preschool

Recruit and promote The Ark Preschool to prospective parents and children
-
Oversee parent-teacher conferences and any recommendations for special services

Plan and execute the Parent Orientation Meeting

Program Development
-
Research and communicate evolving best educational practices to cultivate loving, serving and thinking pre-schoolers
-
Provide positive oversight to the vision of the program development and suggest productive change and goals

Coordinate and meet regularly with the Director of Education and the Director of Business Administration to provide an exemplary preschool program to best serve the children, staff and families

Perform other duties that support the mission, safety, and operation of The Ark Preschool

Establish and reach yearly performance standards/goals for teaching staff and students

Regularly review and update policies and procedures to meet the evolving needs of the preschool

Compliance
-
Ensure full compliance with Texas Child Care Licensing Minimum Standards
-
Serve as the primary point of contact for licensing inspectors and regulatory agencies
-
Oversee corrective action plans, documentation, and follow-up when required
-
Maintain confidentiality and compliance related to student and staff records
-
The Ark Governing Board
-
Work with The Ark Preschool Board to facilitate and report upon the operations of the preschool
-
Attend The Ark Board meetings and other meetings requested by the church
-
Work with The Ark Board to set staff pay based on the Director of Business Administration’s proposed options

Qualifications and Requirements
-
Meet Texas State licensing requirements for preschool director
-
High School Diploma (required)
-
Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field (preferred)
-
Director Certification (required)
-
School Director or Administrator experience (required)
-
Minimum of 5+ years Early Childhood Education Teacher OR Elementary Teacher OR Early Childhood/Elementary Administrator
-
Fingerprinting & Background Check clearance
-
CPR and First Aid Certification
-
Knowledge of children’s physical, emotional, spiritual and developmental patterns
-
Strong communication, leadership and organizational skills
-
Experience in early childhood curriculum development and resource management
-
Strong working knowledge of Texas Minimum Standards as they pertain to The Ark Preschool Program
-
Savvy in technology programs (Google Workspace, Outlook Office, etc.)
-
Ability to balance multiple priorities while navigating the complexities of a church-based preschool program in a positive and inclusive manner

This is a full-time salaried, exempt position during the regular 9-month school year (attendance days and holidays follow the Rockwall ISD calendar) and part-time during the summer.
