Job Description

This part-time seasonal job is designed to allow individuals to explore their interest in Student and Children’s Ministry. Interns work for the Director of Student and Children’s Ministries, and the job functions vary, depending on the needs of that ministry. This job will involve travel. Criteria for application as well as dates and weekly schedule noted below:

Responsibilities

  • Welcoming – Help ensure that all first-time visitors to Student and Children’s Ministry events receive exceptional and timely follow-up, so that everyone who enters our doors feels welcome and included

  • Leadership - Leading small groups and serving as an example for students in their own spiritual growth

  • Supporting Spiritual Growth – Encouraging students to be involved in groups that focus on spiritual formation, such as Sunday School and summer bible studies. 

  • Practice spiritual habits that foster growth – Assist students, in both formal and informal settings, in developing their own ways to practice their faith, including but not limited to:

    • We pray

    • We study the Bible

    • We make friends

    • We tell our stories

    • We give ourselves away in generosity and service

  • Events – Planning and executing special events that engage active students, but also have an outreach focus

  • Developing Community – Creating an environment that fosters healthy, deep relationships among students

  • Reaching Out

    • Being visible in big worship, youth worship, children’s Sunday school and youth and children’s camps and events

    • Creating outings for students

    • Keeping up with students

Expectations

  • Practicing a personal relationship with Christ in one's personal life

  •  1-on-1 Mentoring – Meeting one-on-one with Directors of Student and Children Ministries in a mentor/mentee relationship to foster continual personal, spiritual, and professional growth

Requirements

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and one year removed from high school, and have already completed or willing to complete a ministry safe background check and training. 

Please let us know if you have conflicts with any of the following dates:

  • Any Sunday or Tuesday from May 26- August 4th*

  • VBC/After Party: June 3-6

  • Children’s Camp: June 16-21

  • Junior High Mission Trip: June 23-29

  • Bridgeport Mixed Age Camp: July 1-5

A week as an intern when not on a trip:

  • Attending the 9 am service to sit with youth

  • Helping with children’s time

  • Helping at 10 am Sunday school

  • Helping with set-up for VBC

  • Lunch outings on Sundays with students

  • In office on Tuesdays for staff meeting, as well as one on one time with Youth and Children’s Minister

  • Wednesday night bible studies/hangouts

*Approximately 12 hours a week when not on trips

Compensation

  • $200 a week for 9 weeks, paid bi-weekly

  • Coverage of all camp/registration fees

  • Small budget for outings with students to manage

What discipleship activities have you participated in the past (Bible studies, mentorships, etc.)?

Describe your experience in youth ministry (leader on retreats, camps, youth intern, etc.).

As Christians our calling comes in many shapes in forms - we are all leaders and representors of Christ outside the church walls! Describe what you feel the Lord is leading you in your calling - maybe in school, your future career etc. How would a summer internship prepare you for that?
