Job Description

The Director of Worship Arts is the spiritual leader for all music and worship ministries at Fellowship UMC.  As such, the Director should both embody and give leadership to the Mission and Vision of the church as well as providing for the spiritual nurture and development of all who participate in the music and worship arts of the church.  

This position shall be considered a full-time (or bi-vocational) salaried position and monetary compensation shall be in consideration for the time required to oversee the traditional worship arts ministries of the church.

Duties  

  • Rehearse and lead in worship the adult vocal choir(s) and regular worship musician(s)
  • Be responsible for and provide oversight for bell choir(s) and children’s and youth choirs (specifically rehearsing and directing in worship when unpaid leaders are not available)
  • Provide supervision and direction for the Director of Media Ministry and accompanist(s) for above groups
  • Oversight, direction, and coordination of other worship arts groups such as liturgical dancers, dramatists, children’s choir, youth choir, bell choir, and other worship arts ministries
  • Provide worship leadership in all traditional worship experiences
  • Primary spiritual guide and mentor for all worship arts participants
  • Preparation and study for worship arts selections to coordinate with thematic tone of all worship experiences
  • Actively participate in Staff and Worship Team meetings
  • Coordination of all worship arts with the worship team and the pastor. 
  • Provide leadership for music and worship arts components of special worship settings throughout the Christian year (ie, Christmas Eve, Easter, Holy Week, etc.)
  • Maintain proper selection and maintenance of appropriate printed music library for worship
  • Coordinate and schedule any necessary contract musicians or other artists for worship
  • Distribute, collect, and process all necessary forms for background checks of servants
  • Connect, organize, and maintain Choral Scholar program with Byron Nelson High School
  • All other tasks as assigned by the Senior Pastor

The basic musical requirements for worship experiences may include: prelude or welcome music, call to worship, instrumental music, congregational singing, anthem(s), congregational response during communion, and/or a response at the end of the worship hour.  In case of absence, the Director is responsible for arranging for a suitable replacement worker for Sundays and rehearsals.  The Director of Worship Arts will report to the Senior Pastor (immediate supervisor), but will also have full authority to enable ministry servants to carry out the mission and vision of Fellowship UMC.
