Job Description

The Accompanist is the spiritual leader for this particular area of music ministry at Fellowship UMC. As such, the Accompanist should both embody and give leadership to the mission and vision of the church. 

Music is an integral part of the spiritual life of Fellowship. Music not only creates the atmosphere for individual and congregational worship, but also expresses our love and devotion to God. The Accompanist should always be mindful of the importance music plays in the worship service and should strive to lay the foundation for meaningful communion between the congregation and God. Music sets the atmosphere and prepares the congregation for the ministry of the Word.

The accompanist should be proficient in playing the piano and have a working knowledge of the organ. 

Monetary compensation shall be in consideration for the time required (up to 10 hours per week) to participate in the music ministries of the church.

Duties 

  • Provide musical accompaniment for rehearsals with choir and any extra vocal choirs needing accompaniment. 
  • Provide musical accompaniment for Sunday morning services
  • Preparation and study of musical pieces selected for performance
  • Provide musical accompaniment for special worship settings in the Christian year, including Christmas Eve, Easter, Holy Week, etc.
  • Provide accompaniment for funerals or weddings as needed
  • All other tasks as assigned by the Director of Worship Arts and/or the Senior Pastor

The basic requirements for the worship service may include: prelude, a call to worship, anthem, call to prayer, congregational singing, music during communion, choral special music, response at the end of the worship and postlude.  

The accompanist, in connection with the Director of Worship Arts, will be responsible for arranging for any suitable replacement for rehearsals and worship settings. The Accompanist will report to the Director of Worship Arts (immediate supervisor) and to the Senior Pastor.
