Job Description
White Rock United Methodist Church is seeking a skilled and dedicated Minister of Worship and The Arts to engage with the congregation during and outside of worship to facilitate a greater awareness and appreciation of community, to foster congregational singing and to enliven worship with inclusive and eclectic music.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in music and theology, with ample experience in various musical styles, including traditional hymns, organ music, concert choir, handbells, folk band and children's music. The candidate should possess a deep understanding of the theological and liturgical aspects of worship, and have a desire to participate in continuing education opportunities.
Responsibilities

Worship Services: Select worship music and hymns thematically for worship, incorporating diverse musical styles and elements that resonate with our congregation. Participate in weekly virtual worship meetings (currently Tuesdays at 4 pm).

Music Direction: Coordinate all music ministry programs, alongside volunteer leaders, including the Chancel Choir, Handbell Choir, Folk Music ensemble, and Children’s Music programs. Select music to coordinate with worship themes. Conduct the Chancel Choir, including regular Wednesday evening rehearsals.

Planning: Plan, budget, and maintain music related materials and equipment.

Collaboration: Collaborate with pastors, musicians, and volunteers to coordinate music and worship elements, ensuring seamless integration with the overall worship experience.

Visuals: Work with worship committee volunteers to arrange altars for worship services.

Supervision: Oversee the Worship Technical Director, AV team, and Keyboardist.

Rehearsals: Prepare for and lead regular Wednesday evening and potential weekend rehearsals for choirs and musicians, providing guidance, support, and encouragement to enhance their musical abilities.

Special Events: Organize and participate in special worship events, concerts, and seasonal programs throughout the year.

Pastoral Care: Provide pastoral care and support to choir members and volunteers, fostering a sense of community within the music ministry.

Congregational Engagement: Encourage congregational participation within the worship life of the church and help grow our volunteer choir through relationships and creative recruitment.
Requirements

Bachelor's degree in music, theology, or a related field.

Extensive background and rehearsal leadership experience in various eclectic musical styles, such as traditional hymns, organ music, concert choir, handbells, folk music, and children's music, as well as experience in resourcing and rehearsing hired instrumentalists for concerts as needed.

Proficiency in multiple musical instruments is highly desirable.

Strong understanding of liturgical practices and theology, particularly within the United Methodist tradition.

Exceptional leadership, communication, organizational, problem-solving, budgeting, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Reliable transportation to and from the church for regular rehearsals and worship services.

Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings during the week and weekends (every Sunday morning).
