Job Description

The Director of Youth Ministry will create and implement an active youth program for 6th through 12th graders through the building of life-giving relationships with God, with each other and with the community. This will include, but not be limited to, introducing, instructing and nurturing youth in their Christian faith and in life through Bible study, prayer, fellowship, worship, community service and outreach.

This is an exempt, salaried position for 30 hours per week. This position requires flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends. The expectation is that the director will work on Sundays as well as other specific times as agreed upon with the Senior Pastor. The schedule may vary at different times of the year.

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and motivational skills
  • Good organizational and administrative skills
  • Passion and experience in Christian ministry with and for youth and their families
  • Ability to work with varied personalities and perspectives in a collaborative team environment
  • Heart for diversity and inclusion
  • Awareness of and commitment to Ministry Safe policy

Duties

  • With the cooperation of the Youth Council, plan, schedule, and implement youth activities, including, but not limited to: Youth Connect (UMYF) meetings; Sunday school; confirmation; retreat(s); conference events; mission projects including a summer mission trip; age-appropriate Bible studies and fellowship activities; new ministries as needed
  • Work with Youth Council chair to recruit, train, and supervise teachers, leaders, and other volunteers to assist and/or lead the above ministries and events
  • Effectively promote growth in size and scope of youth ministry with attention to faith formation for all students
  • Actively engage youth and youth families through church-supported activities and programs in the community
  • Ensure that the youth are considered and included within the life of the church
  • Develop an annual strategic plan for the youth program that aligns with and supports the mission of the church
  • Recommend, operate within, and continually evaluate Youth Ministry budget
  • Consistently and effectively promote and communicate about activities and the life of the Youth Ministry using a variety of platforms (e.g. social media, e-mail newsletter, website, personal interactions, etc.) to maximize engagement and awareness from youth, their families, and the church as a whole
  • Actively participate in church staff meetings, planning, development, and church-wide events and incorporate students when appropriate
  • With the cooperation of the Director of Children’s Ministry, plan, schedule, and implement crossover of 5th-grade students into the Youth Ministry
