Job Description

The Director of Worship will develop and oversee the music and art elements of worship at Vista Ridge United Methodist Church.  

Requirements

  • A strong personal relationship with God and commitment to the Christian faith with sensitivity to the United Methodist expression of that faith

  • A strong background in Christian music (contemporary and traditional) and a desire to glorify God through all worship expressions

  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, administrative, and communication skills. A team player with a positive, healthy, proactive work ethic who functions well with varied personalities and perspectives

  • Ability to equip the people of God in their worship ministry offerings

  • Experience with basic computer programs, and the ability to learn to use specialty programs such as Proclaim, etc. for visual and audio enhancement of the worship service

  • Experience implementing and using a click track system to enhance worship

  • Minimum of 2 years of worship leadership experience or qualified worship degree

  • Awareness of and commitment to Ministry Safe policy

Responsibilities

  • Lead worship attendees in such a manner that brings people closer to God, one another, and the community through prayer, spoken word, song, and any other relevant means. Specifically leading the 8:30 a.m. Traditional (Liturgical) and 11 a.m. Modern services

  • Plan/select music, prayers, calls to worship, and media for services

  • Recruit, direct, and rehearse all participants/ensembles in the music/arts ministry

  • Schedule Praise and Media Team participants

  • Develop a calendar for ensemble rehearsals and performances

  • Develop and operate within the annual approved budget for the music and arts program

  • Offer pastoral care to music/arts participants

  • Be active in the lives of those in music/arts ministries by means of participation in weddings, funerals, and care calls/visits

  • Maintain musical instruments including arranging for tuning and upkeep

  • Provide leadership for the music/arts portion of all worship and special services while working with the Lead Pastor to ensure that music is appropriate for the theme and tone of the worship experience

  • Oversee the development and accuracy of slides for worship each week and provide bulletin information, when needed, in a timely manner

  • Supervise accompanist, media tech, and musicians, and arrange for substitutes in their absence

  • Attend weekly staff meetings and relevant congregational meetings

  • Work with Lead Pastor and Servant Leadership Council to continually find ways to enhance and grow worship opportunities

  • Maintain necessary licenses and report to CCLI as required

  • Remain apprised of media technologies used in worship both in person and online

This is a part-time exempt, salaried position reporting to the Lead Pastor. The actual number of hours required during any given week are those needed to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. The director will work on Sundays.
