Job Description

The Director of Generosity (Revenue Generation, Funds Development) is responsible for the strategic development and implementation of all funding development, stewardship and generosity efforts for St. Luke “Community” United Methodist Church. Responsible for the development of a vision and practice of generosity among the congregation. Directs all aspects of a strategic year-round and/or year-end stewardship program.  Administers all aspects of capital campaigns, planned giving for the endowment fund and capital projects. Guides the development and operation of non-profit activities. This is a part-time position reporting to the Senior Pastor.


  • Design and implement a fund development, stewardship and generosity program
    • Lead the marketing efforts, timeline development, and implementation strategy
    • Lead the development and recruitment of the generosity team
    • Develop strategies for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding donors
    • Develop proactive recognition strategies for pledgers and donors
    • Advise on the program progress to the Senior Pastor, the staff, and other church constituents
  • Strategically develop and administer all aspects of planned and legacy giving
  • Develop and administer capital campaign program  
  • Direct general church development generosity education
    • Coordinate with discipleship ministries to implement and supervise generosity training for all ages
    • Market and promote events around estate planning, wills, and planned giving
  • Research and build relationships with existing and potential donors
    • Identify categories of current and potential donors
    • Develop and implement a growth strategy for each category
  • Collaborate with church leadership in the creation of a Non-Profit entity (501c3). Must have experience within the non-profit sector
  • Ensure IRS compliance related to charitable giving 


  • Proven fundraising and relationship building success, particularly in the non-profit sector
  • Ability to work effectively as part of an executive staff
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders, staff, congregants, and volunteers
  • Possess the ability to recruit, train, manage, mobilize, delegate to and lead volunteers and lay persons
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Ability to organize and maintain a focus on developing generous Christians
  • Commitment to ongoing resource development education
  • Strategic vision for equipping at all ages for a life of generosity
  • Experience in grant writing including experience with grant research writing and reporting
  • Commitment to support the overall mission and vision of the church

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required, Certified Fund Raising Executive certification preferred
  • Strong work experience: five to ten years of progressively responsible experience overseeing fundraising and development in a non-profit organization
  • Strong computer and analytical skills, including fund accounting, donor record keeping, etc.
  • Successful track record in cultivating and engaging major donors and prospects with a record of raising over $1 million annually
  • Effective recruitment and management of volunteer leadership
  • Legacy giving experience is a plus
  • Preferred experience in planning and executing capital campaign
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve high performance goals and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, non-profit environment

Additional notes: Working conditions require a moderate degree of physical activity, sitting at computer, manual dexterity, bending, stooping, and walking, reaching, light lifting. Good hearing and corrective vision.
