Spring Valley UMC is an inclusive church that is striving to raise up the next generation, build bridges of harmony in our community, grow deeper in discipleship and create compelling worship. Common Ground is a contemporary worshipping community at Spring Valley that is diverse in its makeup and yet comes together to find unity in Christ to transform the world. Common Ground has been in existence since 2001 and has been led by a talented volunteer band that has written and recorded music in the past. We are looking for a part-time worship leader who will help guide our praise band into the future and enhance the worship experience of Common Ground.


  • Lead volunteer band for 1 service on Sundays
  • Lead Wednesday evening rehearsal
  • Work with Associate Pastor to plan and execute worship
  • Meet weekly with Associate Pastor and Music Director
  • Develop and implement plan for expanding band repertoire
  • Actively seeking out new and relevant contemporary worship trends
  • Encourage and empower band to write new music together


  • Completed or pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree with relevant work experience.


  • Loves and enjoys people, exhibiting a shepherd’s heart in their concern for the worship teams and the congregation as a whole through their personal relationship with Jesus
  • A competent vocalist with proven mastery in worship band leadership
  • Ability to lead worship while playing an instrument (not required)
  • Confidence in stage presence when speaking and leading
  • Highly motivated leader who is well-organized but also flexible in a team setting
  • Able to find and utilize gifts in other people
  • Someone who has excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Able to maintain a professional appearance and preparedness

Time Commitment

  • 2 hours of Wednesday rehearsal
  • 2.5 hours of Sunday morning warm-up and worship service leadership
  • 2-4 hours of preparation, planning and communicating

This position reports to the Director of Music.
