Job Description
Northaven UMC is a progressive 500-member congregation located at the southwest corner of Preston and Northaven Roads in North Dallas. Our ministry is centered at the intersection of Faith and Justice as we are committed to sharing God's love for the world through ministries of compassion, peace, justice, and reconciliation. Because we believe that God's love in Jesus Christ has broken down the walls that divide us, we seek to embody that love in our congregation and welcome people of all races, gender identities, sexual orientations, and economic circumstances.
We seek an experienced candidate (work in a nonprofit or faith community is a plus) who has the energy and expertise to support the pastor, staff, and programs of the church and to manage the office, facilities, and church building and grounds. The successful candidate will be an accomplished, efficient, and personable office administrator.
Responsibilities include serving as receptionist, maintaining church calendars, scheduling use of facilities, overseeing the set-ups for church functions, maintaining inventories of office, kitchen and janitorial supplies, overseeing maintenance and repairs of the building and grounds, and coordinating volunteers, as needed.
Skills
- Professional office administration skills that reflect in a highly responsive and organized work ethic, following up on tasks and assignments proactively and seeking ways to make process improvements and work more effectively and efficiently
- Experience with building and grounds management and activities, meeting with outside groups, on occasion, that are interested in renting our facility / campus
- Demonstrates strong organizational skills, is detail oriented, and can carry out multiple tasks simultaneously
- Proven computer skills, with competence in Microsoft applications such as Word, PowerPoint and Excel; quick learner of other software applications used at the church to manage the building environment
- Displays consistently outstanding people skills and the ability to interact in an appropriate and caring manner with all who come into the church – staff, members, visitors, and vendors
- Is personally and deeply committed to an open, inclusive, and social justice- oriented church family where these values are non-negotiable
- Is comfortable operating and trouble-shooting office equipment (computers, copy machines, phone system, HVAC)
- Can organize, manage, and recruit volunteers
- Is able to maintain confidential and sensitive information
- Excels with good problem-solving skills and initiative to quickly detect issues and bring them to resolution
- Works collaboratively, balancing self-confidence with an open and receptive attitude to learn from others and coordinate with church members, volunteers, and a visionary staff
Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree required
- LGBTQ+ affirming with an unwavering commitment to inclusion and diversity
- Prefer at least 5 years’ experience working as an office manager, preferably in a church or non-profit setting
- Competency with computers and various software applications with a quick aptitude to learn new tools
- Outstanding interpersonal skills with church members of all ages
Schedule and compensation
- 35-40 hours per week
- Work from the office location in North Dallas Monday-Thursday, 9-5pm and possible remote from home work on Friday
- Compensation, while negotiable is largely commensurate with education and experience

Experience
- Microsoft Office: 5+ years (Preferred)
