Job Description
The Curator of Worship & Communications is responsible for oversight of all aspects of worship, online engagement and communications. The Curator of Worship & Communications will maintain a high level of focus on engaging, equipping and empowering volunteers in ministry in each of these areas. They will work in partnership with the Lead Pastor and Worship Leader to coordinate worship experiences that meet the mission and vision of the church.
They should offer an example of faithful Christian living. This is a part-time position (20 hours per week) with hours primarily on Sundays, Mondays and Wednesdays.
Duties
Worship:
- Craft meaningful worship experiences with opportunities for people to engage
- Supervise the Worship Leader and work together to plan worship with the Lead Pastor (tool: Planning Center Online)
- Curate worship aesthetic, including lighting design, altar setup, and paraments
- Develop a repertoire of songs for the congregation
- Establish standards for accountability for the worship team and model those standards
- Oversee all technical aspects for worship, including slides, lyrics, etc. (tool: ProPresenter)
- Engage, equip, and empower members of the worship team to reach their full potential
- Includes setup teams, greeting, communion, praise team, AV, setup
- Lead worship in spoken word, action, and attitude
- Prepare invoices for paid team members to be submitted monthly
Communications:
- Create regular church member communications by email or text
- Create signage decks for all displays (commons, worship space and outdoors)
- Manage all social media accounts for Melissa UMC while recruiting & training volunteers to also work in this area
- Oversight of the website updates
Other responsibilities:
- Develop community relationships to continue our mission of sharing God’s love with those outside the church
- Explore new ministry opportunities and ideas that align with our core values of welcome, encourage & serve
- Participate in care and teaching opportunities with adults in Melissa that build relationships in church and community
Qualifications
- High School Diploma and secondary education in music, education and/or theology
- Participation in or leadership of a non-traditional worship experience (band, praise team, etc.)
- Awareness of Wesleyan or United Methodist theology
- Personal faith in and a growing relationship with Jesus Christ
Melissa UMC is a daughter congregation of First United Methodist Church McKinney. Therefore, all employees will be accountable to and will be paid by FUMC McKinney in accordance with their employment policies.
