Job Description

Kessler Park UMC is a reconciling community of hope and a catalyst for creative change in north Oak Cliff, and young people are called to actively participate in this churchwide mission. The primary responsibility of the Youth Minister at KPUMC is to lead young persons from 12 to 18 into faithful Christian discipleship, particularly through acts of service and justice.


  • Plan, organize, and implement all youth ministry programs and activities, primarily Sunday evening gatherings and Wednesday Night Live activities
  • Interpret the goals and needs of youth to the church at large
  • Equip parents and volunteers for effective youth-related ministry
  • Keep and maintain all youth-related records and administration
  • Support youth-related ministries in the district, conference and ecumenical ministries
  • Optimize personal performance and model Christian discipleship by attending to spiritual and physical care of self, continuing education and new life experiences
  • Communicate with youth and parents in a timely manner concerning activities and programs
  • Lead and nurture members of the Youth Council and Parents Council
  • Recommend annual budget for youth-related ministries


  • Bachelors Degree
  • Experience working with youth and families and a genuine love and concern for youth
  • Ability to work with varied personalities and perspectives
  • Strong commitment to the Christian faith as expressed in the United Methodist tradition
  • Strong commitment to an inclusive faith community, particularly to participation by members of the LGBTQ community
  • Flexibility with regard to work schedule


Hours: Approximately 10 hours/week

Reports to: Director of Christian Education; Staff-Parish Relations Committee
