Job Description

This position provides individual and group therapy for women affected by domestic abuse. This hiree will work on a uniquely qualified team to help create and execute programs and resources for victims of abuse in a supportive and non-clinical environment.  

Reports To: Congregational Care Program Coordinator 

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt  

Working Hours: This is a part-time position with an anticipated average of 25 hours per week.   

  • A flexible schedule will be determined by the Counselor and their Supervisor based on the needs of the program and participants. Additional commitments include team meetings, presentations and events 
  • During certain times of the year additional hours may be necessary to meet the demands of the job. All church staff will be asked to support and serve for religious holidays and worship services including Christmas Eve and Easter. 

Duties

Essential duties include the items listed below, plus other duties as required or assigned. Duties may be changed without notice. 

  • Provide individual and group therapy to women who have experienced or are currently experiencing domestic or intimate partner abuse. 
  • Assess and evaluate to aid and determine treatment goals, as well as provide crisis intervention and long term-counseling in remediation of abuse. 
  • Advocate for clients affected by domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse. 
  • Attend weekly staff and departmental meetings. 
  • Meet with supervisor on weekly basis.   

Skills

Education

  • Masters in Counseling, Social Work, or related field required 
  • Must be fully licensed as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or other appropriate clinical license/certification to perform essential duties in the state of Texas. 
  • Certification in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) strongly preferred; willingness to learn and utilize EMDR required 

Experience

  • 3+ years of counseling experience in a clinical setting required
  • Of total counseling experience, 2+ years in direct practice with victims of domestic violence required
  • Experience working, serving, or volunteering in a church setting preferred
  • Experience leading therapy groups preferred

Language/Communication Skills: Good command of the English language. This position regularly communicates with co-workers, congregation, other churches, entire staff. Bilingual a plus.  

Other Skills and Abilities: This position requires good people skills; strategic and organizational abilities, excellent communication and listening skills; and the ability to think clearly and act definitively in crisis situations. Must maintain up-to-date knowledge of domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse, appropriate evidence-based interventions, as well as HIPAA and other legal and ethical considerations. 

Computer Skills: Microsoft Office Suite G Suite (Google, Gmail, Calendar, etc…) and Titanium Software or other Counseling Scheduling and Records Software
