Job Description

The Children and Family Ministry provides relevant, age appropriate spiritual learning and connection opportunities for children birth to 5th grade, while working with the Student Ministry Director to create a ministry that equips families to be a place of spiritual transformation.

The Children's and Family Ministry Director will oversee Children’s Ministry programming offered during our Sunday School hour, Large Group and at special events. The Children’s and Family Ministry Director provides vision and oversight to the Children’s Ministry working with volunteers and parents to create safe and irresistible environments for children to grow in faith. 

You are the CHAMPION for our children, families and congregation to know, “there is a place for children” at Whitesboro United Methodist Church. 

Hours/Week: Full Time 40+ Hours depending on time of year and event

Degree/Training: Bachelor’s Degree and/or relevant experience 

Qualifications

  • Passionate about helping children and families discover faith in Christ and the local church
  • Able to use existing resources to equip families to be a place of spiritual transformation and nurturing
  • Able to build a team of volunteers that lead and executes Sunday School, Large Group programming, and events 
  • A person who takes initiative to achieve ministry goals and objectives
  • Able to welcome a child to church and welcome the parents as well
  • A team player willing to pitch in and help to where needed 
  • A person of integrity that seeks to do the right thing in every situation
  • Willing to be the face of the ministry to the congregation and community
  • Tech savvy enough to use an iPad and Apple TV or willing to learn 

Duties

  • Teach and model a growing and healthy relationship with Jesus and United Methodist emphasis on grace
  • Work with Pastor and Staff to grow children’s attendance and involvement in the life of the church through relevant programming that reaches children and their families
  • Oversee Sunday School (weekly), Wednesday Nights (weekly), Nursery (weekly) with special events throughout the year (Parent’s Night Out, VBS, Fall Festival, etc)
  • Develop and equip volunteers so that they serve and grow in their strengths on the Children’s Ministry Team
  • Plan and lead purposeful events throughout the year such as Parent’s Night Out and Vacation Bible School that grows the faith of children 
  • Coordinate events that equip parents to be the spiritual leaders of their family
  • Work with Children’s LEAD Team/Children’s Council to refine the mission and objectives of Children’s Ministry to create irresistible environments for children and families
  • Attend school and extracurricular events to support children in our ministry
  • Provide vision, oversight and coordination to the Nursery
  • Work with Student Ministry Director to provide complimentary programing for birth to graduation that provides spiritual growth consistent with developmental stages
  • Publicly celebrate the “wins” of the ministry and show appreciation to volunteers
  • Be part of a staff team that values open communication, integrity, hard-work and fun
  • Communicate with the staff and congregation about the needs of Children’s Ministry as well as how to integrate children into the life of the church
  • Execute administrative tasks such as ensuring background checks are complete, volunteers are Ministry Safe trained, registrations forms are turned in, working within your budget and keeping regular office hours
  • Have fun as we welcome guests, members and staff to the church
