Job Description
Plan, organize and carry out the Christian Education Program for babies and young children ages newborn through 5th grade.
Qualifications
- A strong personal relationship with God and commitment to the Christian faith with sensitivity to the United Methodist expression of that faith
- A degree or background in child development or elementary education
- Ability to recruit, train, organize and motivate volunteers for children’s ministries.
- Ability to plan, organize, schedule and carry out small and large-scale program activities.
- Good teaching, administration, communication and computer/technology skills
- An understanding of child and adolescent development and skill level to develop age-appropriate activities.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate, promote and implement a quality Christian Education for children to include Sunday School, Wednesday night activities, VBS, after-school, weeknight activities and seasonal/special events.
- Develop children in their Christian spiritual and social development by instructing and training children to understand and implement the Bible into their lives.
- Be in relationship with children and their families. Seek out and meet with children, sharing their joys and concerns and challenging their spiritual growth.
- Oversee staffing and schedule for the nursery program. Ensure the nursery is appropriately staffed for all church activities.
- Work with the Children’s Council Leader to recruit, train, and supervise teachers, leaders and other required volunteers to meet the education program requirements of the church and assist in the classroom on a rotating schedule.
- Communicate and publish all activities through newsletters, bulletins and church calendar and social media frequently, as needed using multiple contact methods.
- Work within the budget for the Children and Nursery Ministry
- Other duties as assigned by the Pastor or SPRC
Terms of Employment
- A criminal background check and Safe Sanctuary training will be required.
