Job Description

The Director of Kid’s Ministries is responsible for ministry oversight and spiritual formation of children ages birth through 6th grade while cultivating a relationship with their families. They will recruit, lead and collaborate with a Kid’s Team of volunteers to ministry to kids and family.

The Director of Kid’s Ministries will partner with other program areas to identify opportunities for kids and their families to participate in the overall ministry life of the church. The Director of Kid’s Ministries shall serve under the leadership of the Senior Pastor to execute their vision for the church.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement growing programs for birth through 6th grade including, but not limited to:
    • Sunday School
    • Sunday Evening Programming
    • Easter Egg Hunt
    • Vacation Bible School (VBS)
    • Family Camps
    • Christmas Eve Family Service
    • Discipleship
    • Family Mission Projects
    • Other Events
  • Create and/or identify spiritual formation curriculum with a sound theological stance in line with The United Methodist Church doctrine
  • Partner with the Senior Pastor to ensure the vision and goals of Kid’s Ministry are aligned with the vision and goals of the church
  • Manage the efforts of the part-time Kid’s Ministry Associate
  • Actively recruit, train, and equip volunteers to be teachers, helpers, and mentors throughout the year
  • Hire and train all part-time support staff, nursery staff, and summer interns when applicable
  • Periodically meet with the Kid’s Team to plan activities, receive feedback, and to be in prayer for the children and their families
  • Collaborate with the Kid’s Team to organize and implement an ongoing outreach program for children and parents who are not currently involved with the church
  • Recruit, train, and schedule kids to serve as acolytes in weekly worship
  • Coordinate with the Director of Music and Arts to offer age-appropriate singing opportunities in worship for preschool and elementary age kids
  • Plan, produce, and distribute materials (through various mediums) that promote Kid’s Ministry activities and events to invite the community to participate
  • Actively engage with first time and regular guests, inviting them to return to the church
  • Occasionally offer pastoral care to kids and families who are hospitalized or severely ill
  • Partner with the Director of Finance and Administration to establish an annual budget for Kid’s Ministry
  • Implement and manage safety and security procedures for the Kid’s Ministry program
    • Screen and facilitate background checks on all volunteers
    • Train all volunteers on Ministry Safe standards
    • Partner with the Director of Operations to sanitize the spaces
    • Periodically review church and department policies, addressing concerns and potential risks in partnership with the Senior Pastor and Director of Finance and Administration
  • Attend weekly staff meetings, Kid’s Teams meetings, and Church Council meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Must have a strong commitment to Jesus Christ with a desire to serve in The United Methodist Church
  • Must be energetic, warm, and passionate about working with young children
  • Bachelor’s degree in a child-related field, ministry, and/or child development preferred
  • Must be available to work Sunday mornings and evenings from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.
  • Minimum of 5 years previous experience working with kids, preferable in similar ministry setting
  • Effective strategic planning and developed leadership skills required
  • Strong communication skills required, communicating effectively with adults and small children
  • Strong organizational skills required
  • High energy and physical stamina required; must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., stand for long periods and sit down on the ground easily
  • Proficient in multitasking
  • Strong creativity and working knowledge of learning styles preferred
  • Maintains confidentiality as appropriate and necessary

 

Job Status: Full-time, exempt
