Job Description

The Associate Youth Minister of the First UMC Rockwall shall serve under the direction and coordination of the Director of Youth Ministries. The Associate Youth Minister will assist in multiple levels of participation in the leadership of the ministry to and with youth and their families. The Associate Youth Minister offers impactful ministry experience with some flexible work hours, working around 20 hours a week in the school year.


  • Be present for other opportunities to minister to youth and their families during the week
  • Be available for an increased workload during certain weeks of summer months for trips and camps and around large scheduled youth events during the school year
  • Create and distribute content on the First UMC Rockwall Youth’s social media accounts
  • Co-lead the Sunday morning Youth Bible Study
  • Work as part of a team of staff and volunteers to resource and implement Youth Fellowship on Sunday evenings, including at times preaching, creating small group guides, and organizing games
  • Help to plan and implement monthly activities for after Youth Fellowship
  • Help to plan and implement monthly volunteer opportunities for youth
  • Attend and co-lead retreats, mission trips, outings, camps, and other youth events
  • Fill in for the Director of Youth Ministries or other staff during absences
  • Provide pastoral care to youth and their families
  • Intentionally connect and partner with other ministries, especially Children’s Ministry and Confirmation
  • Serve as worship liturgist in Sunday services, as desired
  • Other duties as assigned by Director of Youth Ministries and/or Senior Pastor

Skills and Qualifications

  • College or university graduate and either currently enrolled in or shall have completed a seminary degree or another type of ministry certification
  • One to two years of youth ministry experience in paid or volunteer capacity is preferred
  • Demonstrate spiritual maturity
  • A sense of call to ministry and a passion for working with youth required
  • Strong relationship building and interpersonal skills (with adults and children) required
  • Sound judgment and problem-solving skills required
  • Ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality of sensitive information required
  • Proven reliability and dependability required
  • Proven ability to manage time effectively required
  • Proven ability to be flexible and calm in chaotic situations
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively via email and in person required
  • Work independently in the absence of supervision required
  • Some travel required (retreats, summer camps, mission trips, youth choir tour, etc.)
  • Willingness to grow and adapt to changes in a growing local church required
  • This position requires sitting, walking, bending, stooping, twisting, and lifting up to 50 pounds as needed to fulfill job duties and requirements
