Reporting to: Family Ministries Pastor
Coordinates with: Family Ministries Staff
Position Type: Full-Time Exempt

Role Summary: Highly qualified candidates are expected to demonstrate excellence through providing vision, leadership, oversight, and execution of the Children’s Ministry Program (birth to 6th grade) at First Grapevine United Methodist Church. This role shapes the lives of children and is a fundamental aspect of our overall growth and evangelism. The role’s primary function is the coordination and direction of all Children’s Ministry functions for infants to 6th grade and to aid in the growing, nurturing, and developing of their Christian faith.
Responsibilities
- Create and foster lasting relationships with children and their families.
- Define and implement a vision and strategy for whole-family discipleship within Children’s Ministry that aligns with and supports the overall vision and ministry of our church and empowers familial discipleship of children.
- Recruit, train, support, and empower volunteers to deliver quality programs and ensure the effective use of resources.
- Coordinate the hiring, training, and staffing of nursery workers alongside other members of the staff.
- Develop regular programming for nursery-6th grade.
- Organize and implement 3-4 large community outreach events each year (e.g., Breakfast with the Bunny, Vacation Bible Camp, Trunk-Or-Treat, Christmas Village, etc.).
- Work with Family Ministry staff to prepare materials and coordinate teachers for weekly Sunday School lessons.
- Assist pastors with delivery of children’s messages during Sunday services.
- Ensure regular, consistent, and clear communication among Family Ministry staff and parents regarding upcoming events, programs, and other important information.
- Work with Worship Director to coordinate children’s music programs.
- Maintain safe and clean classroom environments and storage spaces for staff, volunteers, and children.
- Employ and facilitate the completion and maintenance of Ministry Safe training for all volunteers working with children.
- Assist pastoral staff in budget development for Children’s Ministries.

- A teachable and humble nature balanced with confidence to execute.
- Possess highly developed interpersonal skills (verbal, non-verbal, and written), and be comfortable with providing regular and effective communication with children, students, parents, volunteers, and staff.
- Must possess outstanding organizational skills and be able to appropriately prioritize a wide variety and frequency of tasks.
- Maintain flexible hours to accommodate some evening and overnight activities such as camps and retreats when needed.
- Comfortable with public speaking.
Qualifications
- Beliefs: Be in a growing relationship with Jesus Christ, seeking learning opportunities, spiritual development, and continuing education as needed to enhance your relationship and effectiveness.
- Education: Bachelor’s or master's degree with an emphasis in early childhood education, educational leadership, or Christian ministries is preferred. Relevant work experience may be an acceptable equivalent to a degree.
- Experience: Previous work experience in early childhood education, event planning, marketing, project management, and/or campaigns preferred.
