Job Description
Reports to: The Senior Minister as the immediate supervisor, but is accountable to the Staff-Parish Relations Committee (SPRC).
Hours: Approximately 15 hours a week for planning, rehearsal and worship.
Terms of employment: Salary established by the FUMC Leadership Team upon recommendation of SPRC and the Finance Committee.
Evaluation: New employee evaluated after 90 days by Senior Minister. Performance evaluated annually by the SPRC.

Degree in music education, music performance or equivalent experience preferred.
Responsibilities
-
Communicate regularly with the Senior Pastor and staff.
-
Rehearse and conduct the Chancel Choir and the Cross and Flame Handbell Choir in weekly scheduled meetings.

Select and prepare Chancel Choir anthems for weekly and special worship services.
-
Select and prepare music for the Cross and Flame Handbell Choir for performance 2 to 3 times per semester.

Select and prepare special music/cantata services during the year as needed.

Select thematically appropriate hymns for traditional worship services.

Organize and emphasize special music during the Advent & Easter seasons, including Christmas Eve, and on request from the Pastor as needed.

Maintain and expand the Chancel Choir, Cross and Flame Handbell Choir, and Children's Choir music libraries.

Arrange for special music at regular weekly services during the Chancel Choir vacation periods and when no other special group is leading worship services.

Arrange for substitute choir director and/or pianist when absent.

Attend staff meetings, Worship Committee meetings, and Leadership Team meetings.

Maintain presence and involvement in the greater life of the church.

Support the music ministry in Caddo (musicians, special music, substitutes, etc.).
Additional Duties:
-
Maintaining the piano. Water must be added to the humidifier when indicated by red light on side of piano. Imperative to keep piano functioning.

Contact piano tuner when necessary.

Set up bells for rehearsal weekly. Make sure bells are in working order.

Research and review new music for ensembles.
-
Provide direction for additional music ensembles/groups (ex: Girls Ensemble).
-
Direct/Assist with children’s Christmas program when needed.
-
Help open up church, piano, arrange chancel before Sunday worship. Close and cover piano after worship.

Wash and maintain choir robes when necessary.

Research and purchase equipment for choir/bells when needed.

Lead singing during worship.
-
Assist in arranging music for funerals when needed.
