Job Description

In the heart of the city, First United Methodist Church Dallas is seeking a Director for The Developmental Learning Center, which and is an outreach ministry of the church providing quality childcare and learning from infancy through preschool.

  • Status: This is an exempt position
  • School Schedule: The school is year around with scheduled closings on holidays
  • Degree: Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education or similar field
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in a preschool, education or childcare setting

The Director of The Developmental Learning Center coordinates the care and development of enrolled children by offering a safe and nurturing environment in which children can grow physically, emotionally, socially, spiritually, and cognitively in accordance with the mission and purpose of First UMC Dallas.

  • Leadership as the licensed Child Care Administrator
  • Management skills including staff hiring and performance, budget development and implementation, as well as maintenance and enforcement of policies concerning the school’s daily operation

Essential Functions

  • Act as the licensed Child Care Administrator per the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.
  • Ensures that the DLC acts in accordance with the mission and purpose of First United Methodist Church of Dallas.
  • Responsible for the continued maintenance and enforcement of policies concerning the school’s daily operation to ensure compliance with local and federal guidelines governing childcare.
  • Set annual performance goals related to growth and enrollment. Provide regular reports to Business Administrator and other key stakeholders.
  • Responsible for the fostering of relationships with the parents and caregivers of the enrolled children on behalf of the DLC and FUMC through regular and timely communications.
  • Nurture a culture of high trust and foster a positive work environment for all employees of the DLC.
  • Manage the performance of other staff members by setting performance expectations, providing ongoing feedback, and administering annual performance reviews.
  • Work collaboratively with other FUMC Dallas staff as well as volunteers and community networks in order to promote the DLC and meets its business objectives as well as its developmental mission.
  • In consultation with the church, responsible for developing and maintaining regular operating hours and annual calendar including scheduled closures.
  • Lead the development of annual budget in coordination with the campus Business Administrator while providing day to day budget management.

Other Functions

  • Provides overall administrative oversight to the technology and business processes of school.
  • Monitor inventory of classroom supplies as needed, in a manner that minimizes supply expense while insuring the availability of adequate supplies for use
  • Implement curriculum and advise on lesson plans as part of supervision of teaching staff
  • Manage payroll for the employees of the DLC
  • Maintain student files
  • Preform other duties as assigned by the Business Administrator

Additional Information: The Director will report to the Business Administrator. Compensation will be based on relevant education and experience and a full benefits package is offered. Church experience preferred.
