Job Description

The Associate Minister/Music Minister is responsible for supporting the senior pastor in ministry, supporting the congregation with pastoral care and helping the congregation grow and mature in their Christian faith. The associate minister will possess leadership and communication skills that facilitate excellent music and worship ministry.

Reports to: Senior Pastor


  • Bachelor’s degree. Graduate degree in Theology or Music Ministry is preferred
  • Experience in the United Methodist Church is preferred. Ordination is not required
  • Employee must pass a criminal background check 
  • Salary commensurate with education and experience
  • This is a full-time position


  • Commitment to Christ and to spreading the Gospel
  • Ability to become certified in Ministry Safe
  • Rehearse and lead the choir, accompanists and handbells
  • Create rehearse and present special music as required for all aspects of worship
  • Provide leadership for music and worship of special events throughout the year
  • Attract and recruit people to become active in the church.
  • Plan and implement various church/music activities
  • Recruit, train, and direct volunteers
  • Work in harmony with the senior pastor, staff members, church committees, and volunteers as a team player in the ministry of the church
  • Possess excellent organizational, planning, and communication skills
  • Ability to develop and manage annual budget and expenditures for assigned programs and conduct fund raising events as needed
  • Proficiency with social media
  • Work in harmony with the senior pastor for the mission of the church
  • Visioning with senior pastor and coordination to review and handle pastoral responsibilities
  • Assist with pastoral care: check-ups, personal visits and encouragement
  • Occasionally preach for worship services or share a devotional for events/meetings
  • Supervisory Responsibilities: As assigned by the senior pastor
  • Participate in worship services
  • Support the senior pastor in ministering to the congregation and community
  • Plan, communicate, lead, and oversee music ministry activities
  • Know the Ministry Safe rules and apply them in training and supervising all staff and volunteers
  • Attend meetings with staff, church committees, and Leadership Council as required
  • Collaborate with other program directors as needed 
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the senior pastor

  • Musically inclined and ability to lead the congregation
