Job Description

The East Ohio Conference Connectional Ministries team supports and equips pastors, congregations and faith communities by providing guidance and resources from all levels of The United Methodist Church connection and engaging in meaningful conversations about and developing ministry, mission and advocacy resources for: discipleship, evangelism, strategic ministries, missions and community engagement, multicultural ministries, spiritual formation, young people’s ministries and camps and retreat ministries.

The ideal candidates will foster a strong faith community among young people and will help churches grow in their capacity to be in ministry to and with young people.

The Connectional Ministries Office Director of Young People’s Ministries will provide strategic leadership as part of the vision of the East Ohio Annual Conference to reach new, younger and more diverse people. This vision specifically includes an emphasis on leadership development and breaking down barriers to the full inclusion of young people in the local church, district, conference and general church. The preferred candidates will recognize the primary areas in which discipleships are formed in the local church and will lead in the development of relevant discipleship systems for young people.

Duties

  • Abide by the primary mission of the Connectional Ministries Office.
  • Assist local churches, districts and the Annual Conference in assessing the barriers to the full inclusion of young people in the life and ministry of the church.
  • Assist in developing strategies for leadership development training, the ongoing building of teams, and building on existing Young People’s Ministries networks.
  • Assist in the development of resources and ensuring the resources of Conference Council on Youth Ministries (CCYM), Young Adult Ministry, Board of Higher Education and Campus Ministry align with conference vision.
  • Serve as a resource advisor to CCYM, Young Adult Ministry, and Board of Higher Education and Campus Ministry to ensure each group has trained leadership committed to the primary responsibilities of the Connectional Ministries.

Qualifications

  • Three to five years of related work experience.
  • Program planning, training and evaluation background required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to resolve problems, manage projects, or achieve appropriate solutions.
  • Knowledge of the United Methodist denominational polity and organizational structure and membership preferred.
