The Director of Youth Ministries position is a full-time program staff position that requires essential religious duties. The Director will build a loving and inclusive Christian community among youth, grades 7th-12th, and their families, helping them to encounter Christ, and discover a place to belong, believe, and be a blessing to others. The Director will be responsible for casting vision for the youth program and managing a team of staff and volunteers, whose focus is on the engagement of youth, through new and existing worship, bible study, fellowship and mission outreach opportunities. The Director will work with other staff and church leadership to help integrate the youth ministry into every aspect of the church’s vision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership to the youth and youth families who walk through the doors of Christ United Methodist Church
  • Create and implement an overall youth evangelism strategy
  • Encourage the spiritual growth of all current and potential youth members
  • Develop relationships with students through active involvement in their activities and personal endeavors
  • Directly supervise a youth ministry structure that is applicable to all youth regardless of their settings while encouraging youth to take the step to the next level of spiritual growth.
  • Evaluate and document the objectives and effectiveness of youth ministries, implementing improvements and changes as needed
  • Coordinate an overall youth curriculum plan for the church for a balanced comprehensive Christian education to youth students
    • Through weekly programming          
    • Sunday morning Sunday school
    • Sunday night youth
    • Weekly Bible Studies and age-level appropriate groups
    • Providing opportunities for growth through special events
    • Seasonal camps and retreats
    • Special youth events (Fall Kickoff, ski trips, mission trips, mystery trips, and other recreational trips)
  • Assist with development of youth leadership in providing opportunities for members of the youth ministry family to be directly involved in missions and ministry—both locally and outside the community
  • Lead youth counselors and youth council in programming, planning, scheduling, and implementation of activities and programs
  • Conduct youth ministry introductory workshops and safe sanctuary training
  • Actively involve parent council through providing opportunities for input and support of youth ministry
  • Create events for parents of youth related to their parenting roles and activities for parents and youth
  •  Coordinate the training and mentoring of members of the youth ministry family sensing a call to the ministry
  • Network with other youth leaders in the community to support youth in starting and strengthening school campus ministries
  • Correspond with the youth and families of Christ UMC weekly though all forms of print and electronic media
  • Develop and monitor program budget to meet fiscal objectives including performing within approved budgets, developing program budgets, meeting or exceeding income production objectives, controlling expenses, achieving or exceeding bottom-line results in all areas of financial accountability


  • College degree required
  • Local church youth ministry, three years preferred
  • Strong commitment to the Christian faith and understanding of the United Methodist doctrine
  • Ability to develop Christian faith in the youth and to integrate youth in the broader life and mission of the congregation
  • Proficient understanding of challenges and needs of teenagers
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience, preferred
  • Growing knowledge of program options and curriculum for youth
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Enthusiastic team player and demonstrated ability to build teams
  • Ability to identify and foster leadership in adults and youth
  • Strong organizational skills, facilitation skills, and communication skills
  • Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize, and delegate as needed
  • Proficient in computer skills, including word processing, databases, spreadsheets, and graphics
  • Familiar with social media platforms
  • Able to pass background check
