Job Description
Argyle UMC is a thriving congregation in Denton County, located just south of Denton. We are a multigenerational church that seeks to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world by living into our vision: to Connect to Jesus, Each Other and Ministry.
We seek a self-starting, energetic and creative disciple of Jesus Christ with a keen focus on young people’s spiritual development. The Director of Youth Ministry will be the point person for our efforts to create a caring environment where youth can develop a deepening relationship with God within the community of the church.
The Director of Youth Ministry is a discipleship position that is responsible for creating, growing and managing the spiritual growth of 6th through 12th grades in the church. The position reports to the Director of Discipleship, working alongside of the rest of the discipleship team, to implement youth strategy and execute the youth ministry budget.
The position has the following roles:
- Engagement of youth (6th through 12th grades) and their families in the life of the church;
- Develop a pathway in which youth might develop a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ;
- Create a safe, fun-faith formational experience and systems that embrace and engage youth and their families.
Duties
The Director of Youth Ministry is responsible for the leadership of laity and other staff in executing the church’s vision. The position accomplishes this through tasks including but not limited to:
- Partnering with families and their youth, understanding where they are in their discipleship journey, and provide opportunities for taking the next step in discipleship
- Create a safe and healthy environment for youth to connect a pathway to Christian fellowship
- Create and implement service opportunities for youth to invest in their church community and beyond
- Invest in the lives of our youth beyond the walls of the church including, but not limited to, sporting events, school plays, school lunches etc.
- Oversee all weekly discipleship development for youth including Sunday school, “SUNDAY NIGHT LIVE “ and bible studies
- Oversee Confirmation Classes
- Promote stewardship teaching and encourage students to discover their gifts and potential through God’s grace and generosity
- Support the Director of Discipleship and other ministry areas in carrying out the vision of the church, complimenting these areas with youth ministry and providing opportunities for these areas to compliment youth ministry itself
Perform other duties assigned by the Director of Discipleship.
Qualifications
Required
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college.
Preferred
- At least 3 years of Youth Ministry Experience
- At least 3 years of Non-Profit / Church Business Experience
- At least a year of Youth Program Development Experience
