Job Description

Mission: Arapaho United Methodist Church is currently seeking compassionate, energetic, reliable, experienced Childcare providers to join our childcare team. In this role, you will see to the children’s basic needs, provide an enriching Christian learning environment, and create a safe, compassionate and fun space for our little ones. To succeed in this position, you should be patient, enthusiastic and fun-loving, with a passion for child development and care.  

Responsibilities 

  • Greet parents and children and assist with sign-in for children as needed
  • Provide responsible care for children 
  • Treat all children (and parents/guardians) with care and compassion 
  • Uphold all safety standards
  • Maintain a clean, sanitary and orderly classroom
  • Sanitize and disinfect all toys, chairs, tables areas of use each Sunday
  • Maintain a professional attitude, respecting family privacy at all times 
  • Provide enriching educational and spiritual formation activities 
  • Lead songs, prayers and other learning exercises 
  • Provide structure and accountability in a compassionate fashion
  • Help children with toileting/diaper changes as needed 
  • Implement educational, age-appropriate activities
  • Encourage children to participate in all activities
  • Help children learn to be “helpers” in the classroom, as appropriate 
  • Provide many opportunities for children to learn and develop age-appropriate skills
  • Provide age-appropriate and allergy-sensitive nourishment (snack, water) 

Pay/Hours: Arapaho UMC childcare team members record their work by the hour and are paid hourly, at the end of each month. Must be able to work flexible hours including morning and evening shifts. Main requirement of hours would be on Sunday mornings.

Vacation, Holidays, Sick Days, Personal Days: Must be available to work certain holidays during busier church seasons (i.e. Easter and Christmas). Vacation and Sick/Personal Days are TBD with supervisor, Assistant Director of Children’s Ministry. 

Line of Accountability: Assistant Director of Children’s Ministry with Associate Pastor of Discipleship for Children, Youth, and Families oversight.  

Qualifications 

  • Aged 18+
  • High school diploma or GED required 
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification required or acquired within the first month of employment; AUMC will coordinate training if needed 
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working in a professional or church childcare setting 
  • Current Ministry Safe training certificate must be on file for each childcare team member; AUMC will provide link to this training when needed 
  • Exceptional patience and ability to remain calm at all times 
  • Excellent listening skills and an engaging demeanor 
  • Ability to create and maintain a Christian environment that encourages spiritual growth 
  • Solid working knowledge of childhood development 
  • Creativity, compassion, professionalism and leadership qualities including strong communication, timeliness, and proactive planning are a must 
  • Fun and enthusiastic attitude; welcoming and warm spirit
  • Desire to interact with children in a Christian, loving environment
  • Willing to sing, dance, and “be silly” with the children 
  • Physically able to perform tasks, including sitting on the floor, bending, and standing
  • Must be able to lift children weighing up to 30 lbs. regularly
