Job Description

Anona United Methodist Church, located in Largo, Fla., is an inclusive church that is one of the top 100 United Methodist churches globally. Anona is seeking an ordained Deacon to bridge the church and the world through their calling to lead our active children, youth and adult ministry staff, and serve on the pastoral team who lead the mission and vision of the church.

Supervised by: Lead pastor

Supervises: Age-level ministry directors including Nursery Director, FX (Family Experience) Director, Youth Ministry Director, Adult Ministry Committee, Licensed Child Care Director

Salary and Housing package of $80,000 plus benefits.



  • Coordinate and provide leadership in implementation of educational ministries at Anona encompassing faith development at all life stages 
  • Supervise age-level directors (children, youth and adults) at the Anona campus and at offsite community outreach locations
  • Assume leadership in the deployment of online classes and training


  • Manage operations of multiple age-level educational ministries including children, youth and adults
  • Coordinate the development of a comprehensive philosophy of Christian educational ministry that reflects sound theory and practice appropriate for each age-group level
  • Facilitate strategic planning and goal setting of Christian education programs on campus and in outreach to larger community 
  • Oversee discipleship ministries encouraging community small groups, affinity  (common interest) groups, and adult classes consistent with United Methodist theology
  • Serve on leadership team with Anona ministers and key church staff
  • Oversee Christian Education budget
  • Identify and equip lay volunteers for leadership in Christian education endeavors
  • Develop and implement evaluation tools to ascertain program effectiveness and necessary steps for improvement
  • Foster strong relationship between Anona Child Development Center and the church at large


  • Strong theological and scriptural foundation
  • Excellent communication, administration, and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of age-appropriate curriculum development including resources, delivery models and experiences
  • Experience with use of educational technology 
  • Proficiency in Conscious Discipline and “Orange” children’s curriculum preferred
  • Ability to provide leadership in recruiting and training lay volunteers
  • Genuine concern for all people, and a capacity to relate to others in a sensitive, respectful way

Professional Background

  • Ordained Deacon with background and experience in Christian education
  • 5-10+ years experience in a larger church environment
  • Supervisory experience with multiple age/life-stage groups
  • Experience in discipleship building through small groups
